Thread regarding New York - Presbyterian Hospital layoffs

NYPH Laying off employes from corporate to other front liners

Corwin and Donely made it clear - and cuts are already happening! VPs started to advise their teams this week to prepare to be layoff is definitely coming. Working in the corporate office at 466 Lexington; the nervousness of staff is visible from blocks away. Everyone is seen their teams shrink and they might be next.

@339 you were a victim of one of the known s-xual abuser doctors and also got laid off? That’s hideous. Were there other layoffs in your department or just you?

I have NEVER in my life seen layoffs handled this way. It’s atrocious. Zero transparency. No one knows what happening. So dragged out. People are having panic attacks for weeks on end. The managers have no idea what’s happening. Moral is shot. It’s truly remarkable for how poorly this was done. Layoffs are never easy— but it doesn’t have to be like this.

The layoffs are directly related to the lawsuit that will be close to $1Billion - when it's all said and done. Let's not forget the new building going up in Westchester - 1111 - as well as any other capital projects that have been initiated. There's no way they are not going to fulfill these projects as NYU has been opening buildings all over - SMH.
Pride before a fall is playing out right before our eyes and the ones who suffer are us- the employees, who are NOT responsible for this mess. It's just crazy.

When will Corwin and Donnelly come out of hiding and address us - not like it's going to be believable.

I pray that all those who are laid off are able to find employment.
Maybe they should head over to NYU.

Was anyone laid off that was a patient of the Dr. that was behind the 1 billion dollar lawsuit? According to the video that was sent by the CEO, this was one of the reasons the layoffs were happening.

Cornell Social Work hit today. Expect slower discharges or unsafe ones. Maybe try holding employees accountable for the messes that they made instead of making everyone else suffer.

@31s targeting evs is beyond insane, they already short staffed, the garbage be over flowing because they asign multiple units to one person yet they gutting the lowest at the food chain, literally a measly 40-50k a year. Now imagine an environment with less house keeping in a place that’s already dirty. May god be with us all no one is safe.

“As of the most recent publicly available data, the total compensation for top executives at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital (NYP) is substantial. In 2022, the highest-paid executive was President and CEO Steven J. Corwin, who received $8,933,522. The Executive Vice President and COO, Laura Forese, earned $6,669,549. Other senior executives received compensation ranging from approximately $1.1 million to over $2 million annually.

While exact totals for all high-level positions are not specified, these figures indicate that the collective compensation for NYP’s top leadership amounts to tens of millions of dollars annually. For instance, in 2019, the combined compensation for the top 33 executives exceeded $50 million.”

Imagine how much can be actually saved if the highest ups take genuine pay cuts…. but nope. They wont allow that

Anybody who has family in the mainstream media? Can we get this unfair and barbaric layoffs some media attention?? We the low level workers are the actual machine that keep this franchise going but first on the chopping block when budget is tight. Meanwhile we have absolutely NOTHING to do about all the s*xual abuse that has happened. On the other hand those in higher positions are aware of the years of complaints but chose to do nothing about it! But they will be left with their millions of salaries intact!! This is an outrage guys! Why cant they all collectively take pay cuts just for a few years! They are evil and greedy!

The QPS department is currently going through a restructuring that will take effect on June 1. Unfortunately, this has included several layoffs, affecting both long-standing employees and newer team members. One of the VPs will also be retiring, and there’s speculation that the move may be tied to efforts to preserve roles within his team.

The regulatory and quality teams appear to remain largely intact, though they’ll likely experience a period of transition and adjustment in the coming weeks. Layoffs are never easy, and my thoughts are with those affected. I sincerely hope that each person impacted is able to find new opportunities that are fulfilling and aligned with their professional goals.

I am a now former NYP employee that was laid off as a part of this failed leadership's cost cutting. I've been with NYP almost 10 years and my performance reviews have all been "exceeds expectations".

I was initially offered 4 weeks of severance by my rat director, but I pushed back hard. I told HR about all of the issues in my department including the racism, s-xism, age-ism, nepotism, and favoritism that plagues NYP these days. After multiple discussions, they increased my severance to 10 weeks. That's the least these pathetic fools can do after what they did to this once great organization.

Let’s add to the bigger question: Why are we losing patients?

For starters, our reputation has taken a serious hit. There’s growing talk…especially among younger generations about how the organization handles serious allegations, including our recent OB cases. Word travels fast on platforms like TikTok, and it’s damaging trust.

Then there’s the state of our facilities, especially in the outer boroughs. I walked into an NYP doctor’s office in Brooklyn and felt like I’d stepped back into the 1980s….flickering lights, worn-down interiors, chipped paint on the outside. Meanwhile, across the street the damn CITYMD looks like a cutting-edge medical center.

We need more investment in all of our buildings—not just DHK, OCH Spine, and the new “THE ONE” flagship. The facilities need to reflect the quality of care we claim to provide. Even my Gen Z daughter notices and prefers not to go because the environment feels outdated and neglected. It’s time to modernize and be consistent.patients are paying attention!!!!

What I want to know is how much of this is a direct result of CU’s recent legal issues. A little over a billion dollars paid to victims. I just have to wonder. Even if this current wave of layoffs has nothing to do with this, it’s horrendous living with this level of uncertainty and silence from leaders. How about they lead selflessly and take a pay cur for a year? No bonuses? Give up the luxuries they have?

There has been no message from Corwin and Donnelly since May 5th.
Surely, they could come up with a message to address the staff.
Afterall, it's not our ffault that NYPH is in the bbindthat they are in- yet we tge hardworking employees suffer....

Shame on them for abandoning us during a time like this...

I thought Corwin was better than this.

Really depends on who your “trusted” HR person is. If they some low level HR person best believe Shaun smith not giving them the full details. We need VP and SVP level type of information..and best believe that information is staying within the “leadership” circle. Not even the directors or managers know what’s going on…..Not sure where the July 4th came from but I truly believe they not telling everyone the full story. In about 4-6 months finance will re-evaluate the numbers and be ready for a round 2 if necessary. Why you think corwin has been in hiding. Bet Devika and her marketing team trying to come up with a statement that corwin can deliver on the teleprompter during his TED Talk Video. Disgusting.

Hello all, I had a long chat with someone from HR. Not sure who posted about layoffs going on until July 4 and if it was truly confirmed. Maybe it was or maybe it wasn’t, I can only speak from my conversation with a trusted HR source that he said “I understand there are a lot of rumors about layoffs going on until July 4 but that’s not true”. I guess only time will tell keeping everyone in my prayers and that we are blessed with either job security or better opportunities.

Hi guys. About layoff being extended to July 4th was also spoken by my unit manager. And NP who is close (very close) to the source (higher up) have stated the same. The number of roughly 1000 has not change. They simple trying to evaluate if NYP can function with the roles they just eliminated. There are more targets on the 1000 list. But spreading the time to see how things are running and what not. I am scared that I will be next.

Update May 21, 2025 directly from Shaun Smith, SVP of HR at NYP.

It is CONFIRMED that the layoffs will continue to be announced through the 4th of July. Only the week of Cinco De Mayo will have no layoff announcements due to the sacred nature of that holiday. In total, close to 2,000 people will be laid, with many receiving only 2 weeks severance.

Layoffs continuing through July 4th of July is not announced but will happen.

Back at the end of April, VP's produced a list of 10% of their department for layoffs. So far only 1% has happened. Shaun Smith says that up to 5% will be cut, but not all departments will be cut same amount.

You can choose to ignore and await your turn at the chopping block, or you can look to one of the other health systems that doesn't treat their people as expendable.

Layoffs hit rehab department yesterday. 2 supervisors were let go, 1 OT, 2 PTs and 1 aide. Leadership held a meeting with all rehab staff to inform them and said there may be a second round of layoffs in a couple of weeks.

The best decision anyone can make is to leave NYP. The respect credo was all talk, the reality is you are treated like trash and throw away so Corwin gets his bonus. Corwin uses the respect credo to lecture and talk down to the NYP employees. This organization is not what it used to be and there is no going back.

I’d like to echo that I have not heard of layoffs going until July 4th either. Not sure where people are getting this info, but please please do not spread information unless it is 100% confirmed. People are making serious decisions based on a lot of these posts, please only share factual info!

Everything about the July 4th poster just sounds like a troll to me. I don't think anyone should take them seriously unless we hear something more official, or actually start seeing layoffs continue after memorial day.

If you are trolling, it's really terrible to spread things like this when everyone is so anxious and uncertain about their lives.

I agree with the previous posts that the layoffs are not over, despite what you see on Infonet. Technically the Hospital did not have to file a WARN Notice with the state but announced it as a "courtesy" which I found odd but I assume that 1k cut employees are bound to make some noise. In previous years there was a wave of early retirements and other "restructuring" when Quest purchased the Hospital's Lab business.

Like a junkie who needs a fix, a layoff is the hardest of hard dr-gs when it comes to balancing the books. You get a temporary high but weaken your body long term. For a CFO, you get some temporary black ink on the books but overall the organization gets weaker from burned out employees taking on more work and lower morale. This leads to a worse patient experience and it spirals from there. Then with less patients, there is a demand for less front line staff, less front line staff means less demand for IT/Finance, etc.... and the cycle of layoffs will continue until the VPs are left in their own little circlej--kpatting themselves on the back and blaming everyone but themselves.

This is just the beginning and if NYP was a stock I would be shorting it.
