Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Verizon on resume

I'm trying to find a job, and it's not at all easy to find a job now, but my experience tells me that VZ does not have any special value on a resume. That's why I find it interesting that some here claim that the company still has a good reputation out there. Does anyone else believe that VZ on resume specifically helped him get a new job?

Having worked for Verizon is still great experience on your resume, when interviewing for new jobs, but maybe not for much longer.

Because you’re a retail b-m. Get an actual job instead of being a glorified cashier.

It is better than having nothing on your resume oand better than dollar tree or sonic depending on what you are applying to.

Did you stand in a store and talk to people? Not really a skill?

depends on the job. In my case, Verizon experience was actually a strong detriment. I've learned to strongly de-emphasize it, unless looking at peer companies or similar ones like the cable firms, or tech firms trying to sell into big V. in that case, it's more relevant.

It depends on the job function but in sales, it doesn’t help you. Telecom has long been known to be bloated and where marginal employees can make a living. All that “technology company” talk the execs walked you through was nothin more than a lie. The rest of the working world doesn’t see it that way.
