Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

I don't know how my team will function

After almost half of the people from my team got cut, I wonder how it will all work. At this moment, I would rather have been cut myself, than having to mentally prepare for the fact that my workload will double which means we will be under incredible pressure.

Clients are well aware of what is going on. After all, they are the ones paying the price. You can’t spin it and you can’t defend it so don’t try. At the end of the day, you cannot be better than the company allows you to be. Do your job within the hours you are paid to work and no more and start looking…

Totally agree you need boundaries!

It isn't easy to let the chips fall where they may but, in reality, that is what needs to happen. I was there 33 years and was Rif'd in June. I had submitted to retire Q3 anyway so it was a win for me but not the team. By all accounts, management doesn't care about the stress they put on you but your team does. There are so many people that care (even when we are no longer there..). Try to stay on the high road, do your best, and stop after 8 hours. You are more important than Fiserv.

They won’t. Hard work is NOT rewarded. Do your 8 hours, be transparent to your clients and sign off every night with a clean conscience.

I worked with a fantastic Project Manager a couple of years back who pulled me to one side when he noticed how stressed out I was due to things beyond my control happening with my strategic clients. Problem after problem. He told me to stop firefighting and let the flames rise, that things will only improve if the big boys start feeling the heat. And that's exactly what happened. I had documented all of my concerns to my Director and VP multiple times. Nothing happened, I was simply expected to manage issues and events and play them down to clients who knew exactly what was happening. That same VP and Director then had to answer for themselves when SVP's and GM's started getting calls on their cell phones at all hours asking WTF was going on. Do the same. Pressure is for tyres!

I'm trying to help people in my group realize this reality too. And on top of being completely understaffed, the remaining folks are still at risk for the next round of RIF's too. There is nothing to be gained by trying to rapidly bail water from this sinking ship.

You team will not function. Stop trying.

If you do even less than before the cuts, you can teach managers the concept of reverse-synergy.

Agree 100%. Your clients need to realize what is going on - if you cover for the bad management, you are just enabling it.

You need to set boundaries... you can only get so much done in a day... so after 8 hrs of work logoff & go enjoy the rest of your day. It's not your responsibility to do the work of the people they let go and/or won't backfill
