Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

12 rounds in the boxing ring.

It's absolutely crazy, at the end of every workday I am drained. I feel like I just went 12 rounds with the world champion heavyweight. I have several friends that work everyday, mostly college friends. They seem to enjoy their work and look forward to their workday, as a form of a challenge. I hate it at T, been here 6 years and it just gets worse rather than better. I am careful not to complain around my friends, but I am very envious of them. They all seem to enjoy their lives, while I feel the need to have someone talk me down off the ledge daily.

"In the last 2 weeks I’ve applied for over a dozen jobs and no call backs."

It's a numbers game. You need to apply for at least 10x that number. Sending three to six per day is a good rule of thumb. Good luck to you!!

At this point, I’m waiting for termination so I can at least collect unemployment while looking for another job. In the last 2 weeks I’ve applied for over a dozen jobs and no call backs. Discouraging. The final straw for me is the ever moving goal post and managerial surveillance with inaccurate presence reports. I’m not playing this game.

I work for a competitor and love it! There is life after T that is stable and fun.
Be brave and make that choice.

Yeah - quit now. I sc--wed up too and tolerated this cr-p way too long. Can tell you it never gets better, just worse and worse.

The presence report standard is 15 rounds. Expect a call from your director for some coaching.

“12 rounds in the boxing ring.”

More like 1 round at the petting zoo. This place blows. Boss is a technical wet noodle and doesn’t know anything. His boss knows less than him, and her boss stares into space all day. My sole job is to collect status, update an excel spreadsheet, and recite updates that, I myself, only vaguely understand. My job is safe and sound because who else would be less lazy to do it? I’m a little orchestrator and I’m proud to admit it. I come in each day and play pretend stress so that others think I’m really leaning into it. I’m not though. I’m just doing as little as possible because that’s what every leader at T has taught me.

If I was going to go 12 rounds, it would not be with a world heavyweight champion. It would be with a p0rn star.

It all negatively affected my marriage and my relationship with my children. My children told me when they became adults and felt free to express their feelings. Leave now if you can. Too late for me.

OP is showing their immaturity in the corporate world. If you are working on a life changing or society altering project like Doge is, then I can empathize with your plight. If you are working a normal job that will leave no mark on humanity and will forget your name the day you leave, then you need to quickly choose the man in the mirror to save you from yourself. Enjoy the trite burden that is your feather of a job and treat it accordingly. Remember this: The only deadline that matters is the one on the electrocardiogram monitor.
