district 6 is waiting to sign or walk!
Just wanted to ask anyone from District 3 or District 9, I know they both went on strike for a bit but after the contracts were signed did you see any layoffs?
and more specific what craft titles were hit?
Any info would be greatly appreciated so we can try and see where everyone falls on seniority list.

Of the ~300 that were just surplused in D3, about 2/3 of them were office/call center people.
“ Union employees are generally doing hands on work. In manholes or on poles.”
That’s what she said.
One can pull the latest surplus list from many union sites to see what titles were surplussed. A lot of titles are directly related to TDM/Pots, DSL and Copper systems support since they are being decommissioned. The best place to be is in a hands on position related to fiber or wireless.
There have been some small targeted layoffs in the District 3 union but they are hiring or posting in other positions and orgs. Construction, Utility and UFO/Wire Techs, etc.
Whether you strike or not won’t have an effect on layoffs. It’s a fact with fiber and wireless technology it requires a smaller workforce vs. the old copper network. Company has been using attrition for years to reduce the union ranks but now are ramping up more layoffs as the copper network is being decommissioned.
Some positions are being offered enhanced severance packages before a layoff is announced so more senior employees have an opportunity to retire earlier which allows junior employees to remain employed.
Craft=craftsmen old trade term
wtf is craft?
They surplussed craft while we were on strike and they have not stopped since. The one on 3/15 took 309 craft jobs.
Yes company is surplussing systems technicians in district 3.
Union employees are generally doing hands on work. In manholes or on poles. Helping customers on the phones or in the stores. There is a certain minimum number of these folks you need to keep around. The company always prioritizes expenses and investments to maximize profits so it’s unlikely they would aggressively go after the union workforce in huge numbers. Involuntary severance can cost 2x or 3x the cost of 1st level manager severance. I do think there will be some layoffs but just my guess they won’t be massive.
You can bet your job will be gone due to “business models “ of lower cost non employees replacing us.
We have laid off thousands since on the craft side since.
Management is being pushed out being told to move to a HUB or harassing unethical presence reporting.
Suits don’t care but about numbers and bonuses.
Not worried about layoffs. I am in mobility. We carry the company.
