Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Have you heard that some will have remote status will be revoked?

I have heard that some people will be told that their 'remote' status will be revoked. Can anyone substantiate that? If so, what are the terms? What groups? Will a severance package be given?

The same people whining about remote work exceptions for deeply technical employees are the same ones asking why we have so many know-nothing consultants. You get what you buy.

Sure, make everyone come into the office. Don't offer remote work. Don't offer quality of life perks or a work/life balance....you're forcing yourself into a position where you have to hire the people who will tolerate the bulls|-|it because they have no better options.

Meanwhile, the people with better options and higher value will leave, and you'll be even worse off, and you'll have even more of those consultants and blowhards trying to make a name for themselves by making bad choices and ditching. Good luck, you do it to yourself! It's what you asked for!

Some of the highest performers on my team are fully remote. One was never in Beaverton. The others would never come back. I imagine if you have no idea how engineering works or think my teammates can be replaced by some junior/offshore devs using AI, have at it. Place will be on fire in a week.

Who the F is still allowed to be remote these days? Majority of people had this revoked in 2024, and those who didn’t get comply were axed. For those who still remain with special circumstances , I imagine the clock is ticking with a target on your back

Plenty of unemployed top caliber talent now chomping at the bit and willing to relo

I work some engineers and architects that are fully remote, they would've never joined Nike without it. If we lose those individuals, we're essentially losing 2 or 3 engineers compared to one in Portland or 8 in India.

Those folks are key in my opinion. Now... the fully remote PM... those shouldn't be remote.

Back to the original question: what groups have remote status will be revoked and now have to work on campus in Beaverton. If so, what are the terms and deadlines? Will a severance package be given?

You realize those people who live in Seattle come down with their own money driving their own cars and living in their own places in Portland, right? A lot of people across the company actually live in Seattle and keep places in Portland. That’s like requiring anyone who lives in Vancouver to relocate because they live in Washington. Who cares where they live as long as they’re here? If they wanna fly in from Florida on their own dime every week, who cares? It’s not your concern or my concern or anybody’s concern where someone decides to live with their family as long as they are meeting their employment requirement.

If anything, GT is the one supporting remote work the most in order to make sure that the company gets the right talent. No one‘s ever going to appreciate that because they need something to complain about. I can see that as a mid-level engineer I don’t understand how others cannot comprehend it. All I’ve heard from my senior director and above is support for remote work. All based on getting the right talent.

I do believe it’s absolutely possible to effectively lead teams in predominantly virtual environments. That said, if Nike plans to phase out remote work, the RTO policies need to be applied equitably. My concern is that this shift will feel less like a strategy for collaboration and more like a quiet attrition tactic. Those not in the inner circle, or without a champion, may find themselves suddenly mandated back onsite, while others are quietly exempt.

If leadership wants to signal that this is a priority, and that favoritism isn’t at play, lets start with MD. She should be required to relocate to Beaverton or Hilversum. We know that won’t happen though, she will continue to rampantly spend the companies money traveling from her home in Seattle.

This is wise. Stop having people (incl. D AND SD AND VP) totally disconnected from Beaverton! Please resign! This will give some fresh money for Nike and its consumers.

Why not? We chased away our investors, our customers, and our partners. Might as well send more of our good employees to our competitors.

Correct - revoking remote status means relocate to Beaverton or resign.

May I know what you exactly mean by revoking remote status? Does it mean they need to come back to office or asking them to leave?

OP is not delusional. Other engineers got exceptions and have to come in once a quarter, for 4 days
