Is what we’ve seen over the past couple of days just the beginning? There’s talk of a 10% reduction, with most of the cuts expected in the first and third weeks of May. Is that still just an unconfirmed rumor?

The press release just hit saying NERSC selected Dell and NVidia for their new N10 system. Cray owned that site and it was their’s to lose. This was a $300M contract and I can imagine the notice of the loss led to the layoffs in both the HPC/AI and Slingshot groups.
“Cray becomes yet another successful company…”
Agreed. HPE is not a company where even acquired innovation can thrive, let alone survive.
Cray becomes yet another successful company which HPE buys and then slowly starts to tear apart with terrible decision making. Job well done C-Suite!!!
WFRs have started. I've seen them across the board in HPC AI - managers, engineers, service, program managers, writers, etc. Morale is dropping as we hear about more people being affected.
Can you comment on if the layoff at HPC/ AI is for engineering, management, Projects Managers? Is it targeting the middle layer of management or anyone?
Layoffs in the NA HPC/AI sales org happening today.
Possibly. May is one of the twelve most popular months for layoffs at HPE.
It hasn't been confirmed but something's coming, that's for sure.
With Elliott coming in, that might be expected. But haven't heard of any rumors myself.
I think the rumor was that 10% reductions would be happening in some BUs. And as far as the first and third weeks of May, well that's just a guess because that makes the most logical sense (layoffs typically happen on Mondays at the start of a new pay period for logistical reasons having to do with WFR, since HPE gives you a two week "grace period").
However, I'll say that folks are dropping like flies in Servers. So "major layoffs" are already happening :)
