Tldr but for personal reasons I have to move to nyc this year. I asked Nike and they said “hard no” to me relocating there, despite there being people with my title in the nyc office. Ok Nike…
Plot twist: I now have 3 offers (companies bigger than Nike) but I still love my Nike role.
I intent to quit but is there a point in asking them for a relocation again now that I have concrete offers? For some reason I feel that they might say “yes, approved” and then ask me to come back to whq a month later.
Any of you have any such example that you’ve seen happen? Am I right to not trust anything they say?

That was a nice and measured response, I liked it. In retrospect I think I am fearful of bad work life balance in the new job, since it was pretty good for me at Nike. All my offers were from big tech, and since the mass layoffs in that sector I only hear things getting more hectic. In other words, I might have needed some external push to help get rid of my fears. It is what it is.
This post doesn't seem genuine. You posted this hoping internal people would read it. I imagine they didn't have to think too deep to recognize it either.
If I assume best intentions, my advice is is that you should never lord something over your employer. If you have a better offer, be gone. If you try to outweigh your employer, you've already burnt that bridge and they will get rid of you eventually. You've essentially marked yourself.
Again, I don't know that my (or anyone's) advice is what you're really seeking.
TL;DR Just go. Just do it.
OP here —
Don’t worry, accepted one of the offers and am gone asap. Hope those of you who are so unhappy or bitter soon find something you actually like, my job and time at nike were quite good.
You’re an id--t.
Great trolling. You must be as delusional as Nike leadership.
I hope this is a joke, if not you need your head checked.
If you are at the point where you have 3 offers already then the answer is right there in front of you
“No one is gonna put you on a list and say, “that’s the one who got an offer and used it against us. Let’s fire them in the next round or force them to move back”. Won’t happen. And those offers, if true, will be there in 3, 6, 12 months. If you’re that good, you’re fine.”
You are either in Nike HR/PR or not aware of how things work behind the scenes.
Do you know the OP’s manager, personally? When the manager has to do their forced ranking of their employees for the next RIF, how do you know they (or the VP) won’t hold a grudge against the individual? Think HR will protect the OP or has a logical framework? Go read the recent s-xual harassment lawsuit documents.
Nike has targeted remote positions in past RIFs. Who’s to say his/her position won’t be targeted?
Lastly, in this job market/economy, how can you say that the job offer will be there in 3/6/12 months from now, with any degree of certainty?
I don’t know anything about the other offers but those companies could offer more job security, a less toxic environment and better prospects of advancement/development. The OP is right to question the company. After all, “trust is a two way street.”
Contrarian here! Unfortunately, I’ve seen plenty of people get what they want when they call Nikes bluff. Su-ks to have to come to that but a raise, promotion and now a relo. That’s the way it works at Nike at least. No more mister nice guy and doing the right thing for our employees. Don’t take it personally. If you love your job and the company, get out of your head and don’t let these people tell you to run. No one is gonna put you on a list and say, “that’s the one who got an offer and used it against us. Let’s fire them in the next round or force them to move back”. Won’t happen. And those offers, if true, will be there in 3, 6, 12 months. If you’re that good, you’re fine.
In the end, we have to look out for ourselves. If Nike and New York are your choices, make it happen.
Definitely move on and do not trust Nike. It is a sinking ship with many of the strong employees leaving, becoming more evident by the day. Have received half a dozen goodbyes in the last few weeks, many good employees out there door. As someone who is looking and interviewing trying to get out of the berm, congrats on the offer. Would highly recommend leaving Nike.
100% don’t trust Nike. Move on the something better.
OP here
I Lol’ed at the ding-a-ling and will assure you I’m competent enough to do well in high pressure interviews, that’s all. This doesn’t say anything about my overall competence.
Anyway thanks all, just making sure I’m not crazy for thinking they’re always lying.
With all due respect, you sound like a ding-a-ling and I'm surprised that you have "three offers". In this economy, and with the way that Nike quickly gave you a hard no, I'm really surprised you're even asking this question. Trust no one at Nike. No one! HR is not your friend and they will never do anything to accommodate good employees - unless you are related to someone related to that id--t MM. Move on and good luck. Yes, I sound like a b*tch but I've seen too many current and former employees who refuse to see Nike for what it now is.
Why are you even asking us this? You’ve got three offers—at companies bigger than Nike—in this market? That’s like getting three marriage proposals after your ex told you they “just aren’t into long-distance.”
Even if Nike says yes now, are these really the people you want to keep dating? Sounds like they already showed you their true colors.
Even if they say “yes” now, it doesn’t mean that your role won’t be targeted during the next RIF.
I would personally accept one of the other offers and move on to the next chapter of your career/life. Congratulations.
Move on. You won't miss Nike once the swoosh is in your rear view mirror.
