Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

To those of you who may get laid off..

I too was once laid off about 6 years ago and I thought it was joever. Nearly had an anxiety attack but with the extra time I had I went back to college and managed to transfer into an Ivy League university. Got my bachelors and entered the labor market about a year ago.

Let me tell you, the labor market is FU---D, especially with the Trumpito tariffs kicking in. So maintain those personal relationships and connections if you can.

I’ll just put this here. Maybe they will, maybe they won’t. We will see, but I think he’s crazy enough to try it.

They won't eliminate taxes on people making 150k or less. Never going to happen. That's like 90% of the people.

I was laid off and went back to school for my doctorate in theoretical physics and got laid off again so I went back to school for nuclear physics and designed a clean environmentally safe automobile engine. After another layoff I went back to my day job as a wire tech. You get used to layoffs this way.

To those complaining about the tariffs - you would complain no matter what they did. Implement a profit tax - complain
Tax companies more that produce offshore - complain

No matter what they do to actually do something to bring back jobs here, which no administration has done in earnest ever, you will complain because Trump did it. Are you for more jobs and production here or not?

Again, I’m not a fan of Trump either, but I get why they did it. All this volatility is temporary. Are you going to complain when the tariffs eliminate federal income taxes on people making less than $150k as has been proposed? Yep, you know you will.

Pay higher wages get less profit so you pay less profit tax. Have a graduated profit tax, higher percent at higher profit level. Profit tax encourages higher wages.

You won't have a company making a billion dollars and paying 0 taxes

What are you talking about? You can't pass the cost of a profit tax back to consumers.

Profits = how much money a company actually made.

COGS cost of goods sold and the profit from that would have a profit tax -ie after its sold and profit is calculated they pay a tax on that item.

General profit (companies that do not sell goods or profits from not selling good [service]) can also have a profit tax. Ie an additional tax on their actual profits (above a certian profit trigger like say 1 million+ profit also pays a 10% profit tax)

“ You have to tax actual profits of companies to get them to change. Taxing profits for goods not made in the USA would be a better way to go, not tarries. You could easily tax profits above a certain profit ammount (so you do not crush small businesses). But this would hurt rich powerfully donors so that won't happen.”

Costs would be passed to consumers. And where do you think small business get their products from? Manufacturers and distributors. What would you consider excess margins? You don’t think small business has that on some items? See your solution is no better.

The problem is Tarrifs are just passed to consumers. It takes years to build plans and buildinga to hire people. There will be no wage increases.

Utter nonsense.
Hopefully you’re among the first to lose your job.

“ Job market is in knee je-k reaction mode. This is all short term. This is all an effort to get jobs and manufacturing back in the US. Companies are already announcing shifts in production, more and more will come as they realize this isn’t going away. Pretty soon there will be plenty of jobs and higher wages as demands for workers increase. This was a necessary move and long overdue. How else are they going to get companies to stop offshoring everything? I hope he does offshore jobs next.”

Most likely, in real life away from your little keyboard, you are a tiny doosh bag who was picked on as a red headed stepchild.

You're doing really well, and decided to come post about your success on the layoffs board of your former employer? You are like the guy who is "totally over" his ex, yet keeps constant tabs on her.
