Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

It’s a cult.

I was laid off after many years and was massively in the hole with not selling options before the price tanked. I was so annoyed that I had been loyal and stupid, despite the evidence in front of my eyes that the place was being run by clowns. (I’d been in meetings with JD, HON, MF and others).

Took me while but I got a new job. I can honestly say I’ve got more done in the last month than in my final 2 years at Nike. It’s great to be able to make decisions, lead a team and do work without having to ask 30 other people for permission.

I’m still pi---d but feel like I’ve emerged into the daylight after a dark period in a cult. It has an eye-opening deep psychological process. I’ve left Portland and I’m now very happy with having a job where I can get stuff done, surrounded by good, low BS people who say what they mean and do what they say.

So many things to be put right at Nike to get on the front foot again.

Sounds like they exercised them at $0 since they ran out of time during the layoff. If you select options, you typically only have 3 months post layoff discussion to sell them.

Sounds like OP got options at the height and got impacted in the recent reorg meaning that got nothing.

And this here is why Nike isn't going to bounce back this time, the employees are being su-ked at their very core and not appreciated. Working there isn't FUN at all anymore, and finding companies that truly value culture and good work is the icing on the cake. Getting away from Nike has been the greatest blessing. With faith all good things come even if we don't understand the pain at the time.

Nike is a cult for sure: where the only perk is bragging rights and occasional discounts to toss at friends and family. I still remember sharing my 'luck' of not getting laid off with a group last year, only to have some of them confess that they'd be utterly devastated if they didn't make it to the 5-year mark and secure that coveted lifetime discount. I judge them, but I get it – from a human standpoint, it's hard to admit that your 'dream job' is actually a soul-su-king machine. So, you put on a smile, lace up those Air Maxes, and pretend that everything is just peachy. After all, 'just do it'... right?"

At what price did you exercise your options?

Glad you found a decent place where you can do impactful work.
Gives hope to others who are in same dark place with BSers at Nike.
