Does anyone remember "leadership " saying in a townhall that if you had a delivery, remodeling project or the like to just work with your supervisor regarding RTO compliance?

I recently had a contractor at my house and decided it wasn’t worth it, and went to the office. Had the wife stay home with the contractor.
When is she expecting?
Never leave a contractor home with your Wife! Seriously dude? This is a messed up world we live in. Just look at how and where we work. You can’t trust anybody.

There was a time I was having flu and was in the middle of a delivery, I asked my manager if I can WFH and complete work, he said no I can’t bet my job for you.
So i took 2 sick days, then he asked me for doctor note, I did not have any, as i took some tylenol and rest, who go to a doc for flu or viral fever.
This was escalated and I had to do the HR conversation
“ I heard in a town hall that if you’re taking delivery of a new refrigerator you can work remote. BUT THAT’S ONLY FOR REFRIGERATORS — any other appliance doesn’t count. lol”
We gotta move these refrigerators, we gotta move these color TVeeees!
Yes, my coworker lives alone and gets cold pack meds sent. During the summer they let him wfh the delivery day so the meds don't spoil or get stolen. He has no choice of when they get delivered TimeWise

Had a teammate go through this recently. The answer was - you have to take PTO. If you are on the 5x8 plan, there is 0 wfh during regular business hours, have to log your hours, take time off for any missed time or come in early/stay late to make them up.
Now you can wfh all you want early mornings, nights and weekends, some require it on top of your in office, but it doesn’t count towards your 40. It’s flex for me and none for thee.

Yes, this was in an Anthony town hall.
We have received the same instructions from both him and his AVP’s.
We were told as recently as one week ago that we can still use WFH in those situations.

No, nobody remembers a town hall in which leadership expressed common decency and empathy for real-life situations to be handled with understanding, at your discretion. That would require that we go back to a work life balance mentality. Haven’t seen that in a long time.
That all falls under "work with your supervisor". Depending on the nature of your work, and the nature of the remodeling (can you actually hide somewhere in a quiet and dedicated space while the work is happening?), if they would rather have you online and contributing as opposed to taking time off, they could authorize it and annotate any tracking.
I would get that in writing though. If it's more than a couple of days I would just take the time off. It's not the companies responsibility to work around your home improvement schedule.
Have deliveries sent to the office. Hire someone to monitor the remodel or get help from other family members and neighbors.
