Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Retail Assistant Managers

When will it come to the leadership's attention and realization that Retail Assistant Managers are the biggest waste of cost in the company? What do they do to justify their pay? stock grants, etc?

The problem is that Verizon promotes sales people and not leaders. It should be about working with employees. Developing and empowering them. But the message that comes from the top is be involved in sales, close sales. Jump in and sell everything for them. We’ve been hiring the wrong people for years. It’s the old adage those that can do, do. Those who can’t, coach. You can be a great leader and not have the selling skills. You understand the struggle and how to overcome. Good sales people just think is easy and should be easy and don’t know how to make someone else better. Assistant managers should be assisting managing not assisting sales. Now when managers go through training they are taught to be leaders. But when leaders have their calls or visit stores they drive that the manager should be selling.

I guess this depends on who your managers are. You have bad asst managers or maybe even a bad sr manager that never trained your AMs properly. In our territory I see a lot of SRMs that are MIA most of the time with the store being ran by AMs. Also they take the badgering from their uppers and have to filter it to motivational talk to the reps. I feel for you. Bring it to your directors attn and if they care enough, there will be additional training. At least that happens in our area.

Bro what are u talking about, ASM is a lateral move in pay. I ended at 70k as a rep and I started as an ASM at the same, actually a little less.

Toxicity has to get out somehow. Would you prefer it to be on an anon board or in-front of customers?

@17x+1jpxhasrg You’re not some hot shot sales person selling revelutionary tech. You are selling a product that has met market saturation. The people that walk in your stores are the mo--ns, the old, the lazy, the broke looking for “free” phones and the unfortunate souls that were sent to the store by Saar from Verizon India.

Anyone with actual sense does not want to even share oxygen with you and shops online. I would call you a used car salesman but that would be an insult to used car sales man.

Enjoy spending 6 hours selling 2 iPhones to crypt keepers and slamming perks they will remove within 30 days.

Dude, I’m sorry that your AMs su-k at their jobs. However, that doesn’t mean that all of us are useless. I rarely ever see downtime. your check is also my check so I am always working with my reps to find solutions that are not only right for the customers but make them money as well. I take the heat from my director so they don’t have to. I am part shield, part teacher, and part helper. I’ve worked with some useless AMs before so I get your frustrations but do know that there are some good ones out here. Change stores if your current store is a lost cause.

Directors are absolutely unnecessary I’d even make an argument that Sr. Directors aren’t necessary. All they do is have calls about the call that they were just on. It’s a giant game of telephone dressed up as a position that takes no effort. AMs put in a lot of work especially if their SM is useless.

They are there to make DMs act like they are working. If a store opens at 10 by 11 they will be text messaging AMs about numbers so far and acting like that is work. There are alot of useless positions in the retail chain.

I’d say more director and sr director are more useless than retail assistant manager
