Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T to lay off 88 staff in South Florida

from the https://www.herejacksonville.com/att-layoffs-sunrise-florida/
Among those affected, the majority are customer service roles. To break it down, the layoffs will impact:

71 customer service associates
14 service consultants
3 maintenance administrators
This news undoubtedly brings a wave of uncertainty for employees as they have until May 13 to find new positions within the company. If they do not secure new roles, they will face the reality of permanent termination.

A Pattern of Reductions
This announcement follows another recent layoff by AT&T, where the company let go of over 134 customer service workers and one office assistant at its Orange Park location. Those employees had until March 22 to find new roles within the company, much like the current situation in Sunrise.

Is this the end of support in Alabama? They had a similar hair cut a few years ago.

They can now party on with Spring Breakers.

Some of the employees in Orange Park who were surplussed agreed to relocate to Sunrise. They just got double surplussed.

This was a C-Suite decision and as previously noted, our Leaders DO NOT CARE about their Legacy Customers. It is true, TDM continues to be supported out of this center. Plenty of Orders, including Work In Progress. Mostly, Legacy Customers that require MACD work. Automation was attempted on multiple occasions, $10s of Millions were spent with little to no positive results. ( Internal Dev Teams and External Dev exceeded their budgets and delivered junk. The Complexity of 4 Regional Ordering Systems that were never aligned in the 40 plus years of AT&T TDM Support across the US was repeatable under-estimated by the smart people in the room. ( West, Mid-West, South-West and South-East ). This is another great example of AT&T dumping critical support with no visible 'catch' team. The front-line employees are highly dedicated with decades of experience and leadership doesn't care about the negative customer impacts. Pay fines and move on ... AT&T literally p-ssed away a captive set of customers with no viable voice solution and the data solutions are massively expensive. The IP Protocol evolution was lost on AT&T, a White Paper investigation/evaluation should be done to document the mis-management of the Captive Customers and why these long-standing customers left AT&T. Example: AT&T was the Sole TDM Provider for State of Governments, all of this business has left management !! AT&T Leadership, specifically the Dallas C-Suite gang should be held accountable, but none of them consider it their job to effectively pivot our Business Clients from TDM to a cost-effective IP Solution. I blame C-Suite for this total disregard for A WORKING/ SUCCESSFUL transition.

We lost the government 60000 orders since att didn’t want to deal with TDM. Sad we don’t see business profitability with needed services.

(Ready or not our "leadership" is getting out of the TDM business.
They'll pay fines or force customers over to Ethernet.
They don't care.)

While I agree that is the intent, TSP is being added pretty extensively to TDM circuits, even POTS lines, these days.

I anticipate some interesting pain points in the future, when they try to do TDM emulation on something fairly arcane, (for instance, FX PRI with maybe a custom config) It doesn't work, the TSP-E code demands 24x7 work to restore, but the people who knew how to do it are no longer with the company.

I think the city that was hit hardest with the D3 surplus will be Birmingham. They had 100 of the 309.

It is unfortunate that they are shutting down that location. JDV spent several millions about 7 years ago renovating that space and really upgrading the interior. Even though it was windowless it was really upgraded nicely, and a nicer place for the employees than the old call centers that have not never been updated.

yeah tdm/atm/ipdsk is going away, no way around it. in the southeast T is pretty much a non-player in the ethernet/fiber service in most areas. the Gigapower out west is having problems with their contractors installing fiber without tearing up sewer and water
lines.

There is a TON of knowledge in that office, especially with respect to TDM. Lossing that knowledge is a tremendous hit.

Across from Sawgrass Mills Mall. Broke ground in the very early 2000's. Those were the days.

It's true.

That's the Sunrise office. Things were up in the air with the possibility of having them move to Miami, but evidently the decision was made to simply close them. They had their stop the shop at noon on 3-14-25. There is a TON of knowledge in that office, especially with respect to TDM. Lossing that knowledge is a tremendous hit.

In my experience, the kindness and quality of the people I interacted with from that office makes the loss all the more poignant.
