Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Forced reductions and forced moves

Engineering & ops just received word that there will be relocation letters to meet quota. After relo letters, forced reductions will take place a month or two afterwards. This will have major impact on our network and stability. These changes DO NOT matter if the employee is RTO compliant btw. They are looking for a 10% reduction under SVP Anthony.

From my estimate, 10k employees (that’s just my speculation)

Being that group is non customer facing the move is coming sooner than later. Now the time frame between the relocating to Dallas or Atlanta versus off shoring is anybody’s guess.

I will be here until I am 60 just so a millennial doesn't get my job. Just stacking cash!

Anything new on Planning moving to either Dallas or Atlanta? The powers to be have been testing out using managers from one market area to work case loads in another that they have no knowledge in. Consolidation is coming but do not know when.

Yes, those last 10 years is when the real wealth is built because of the compounding of a huge base amount.

Corey Anthony has just under 22,000 people.

Look to your left and right. Half of the people around you will be gone in the next 2 years. Simple as that.

So saying this or that location is gone is pure rumor unless someone has access to and can share the list. The Charlotte is gone comment does not sync up with what those of use working in one of the two locations were told. There are over 100 network employees in one and collectively another nearly 300 ACE, CTO etc in another location.

Charlotte is gone for Network. Depends on your org for locations. If E&O from Anthony org will depend which location list Tier you are in. Ask your Director they know the city "tiers" and the tier 3 goes first and work inward OVER time eventually to ATL and DAL with ultimate end game being DAL

No one is being forced to relocate. It is an option to choose.

Anyone know what network regional strategic locations will remain from the original list? I’m hearing Charlotte will stay but that’s 100% rumor

Employee Appreciation Week was created because managers get bonuses off the backs of employees. They don't want the associated guilt trip, so they give miniscule offerings as a thank you.

50+ goons who won’t retire. So this will be done by location. Be angry with the 50+ boomers who won’t retire.

Once again, people who are over 50 are not Boomers. Gen X at best. If everyone over 50 retired, the entire economy would collapse, as they still provide about 30% of the nation's workforce. And did your parents curl up and die when they turned 50?

Company still sees value in them, because it's the 50+ peeps I know who have gotten relocation $. So GFY.

I sincerely doubt SVP Anthony is over 100k employees. That would be 2/3 of total work force; 80% of domestic work force. So either your estimate is independent of the target percentage, or you're really bad at math.

Been trying to tell you this company is circling the drain. There’s no innovation or new revenue. Just cutting cost and headcount. Haven’t you all noticed RTO is the ONLY focus right now?

Only two remaining locations Atlanta and Dallas. Sad news, sad day. Lots of people will be feeling the pain.

Sad day. Tough news. We’re going to lose a lot of good people. If we’re so desperate that we need to slash headcount because we’re offering an iPhone promotion this place doesn’t have much longer. We’re one quarter of missing targets from a return to the teens (stock).

I suspect you have absolutely no clue about savings/investing if you don’t think 10 years of being in the workforce makes a big difference for a successful retirement.

Sure it does, but you have worked through the longest/largest bull market in history. If you haven’t saved enough to retire by 55 then you’re doing it wrong, pal. I had saved enough to retire when I was 40 if I had needed to.

“Needs of the business”

More like ‘needs’ of the C suite. They have to keep those monster bonuses rolling in.

50+ is not boomers. The youngest boomers are age 60. Stop thinking everyone older than you are boomers.

Health insurance is the primary reason people stay until full retirement age.

Lenox. Akard. That is going to be the list. Relocate letter is just an age-based layoff. If you move you will still be gone in 18 months or less.

"This is to eliminate the RIP (retired in place) 50+ goons who won’t retire. So this will be done by location. Be angry with the 50+ boomers who won’t retire. They are the reason you’ll get a move letter."

Get real. Almost nobody retires at 50 years of age. You can't even draw a pension without massive penalties before 55. 60 is a more realistic retirement age on the younger end. Many don't retire until 65 and some now until 67 so they can also receive full SS benefits.
