Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

what's up with Nike's new Ads ?

You can't complete, so compete
You can't win, so win
Rather than motivating, they confuse by contradicting themselves without offering clarity or purpose . It feels like a riddle with no solution. Motivation should ignite belief, not bewilderment.

Since the Olympics, Nike has lost it with messaging. It's tapered off from "Winning isn't for everyone and My dream is to crush yours "
People need clear inspiring message, display of courage, and sportsmanship, not dismissive , confusing messages.

Maybe Nike needs to create one for themselves - You can't think, so think !
Why start with a negative message ? When has negativity inspired ?

"The Super Bowl ad was stupid and insulting to women."

Everything is insulting to Karens nowadays.
It's their thing.

'This thread reminds me of the people who hated the “believe in something” with Kap.'

Isn't he wealthy with no accomplishments?
The Kardashians could have been a better hire.

This thread reminds me of the people who hated the “believe in something” with Kap. Now we look back and say how smart and great that ad was.

I hate them.
If it requires explanation, it is not effective.

They are lame.

It’s what people always say to you, and you counteracting the notion. “You can’t compete” (counter force), so what should you do? Quit? No you compete, so “go and compete”.

That’s the message, and I’m not even an English major and I understood that. Have you ever dealt with adversity in your life where someone said you weren’t good enough, you need to ‘x’, etc… it’s follow your own direction. Aka be a rebel, like our old maxims.

I was always pretty annoyed with the ads where the kids all had to have attitudes. I'm sure there's a correlation between that and kids acting like a-holes when playing sports.

'“Co-founder of a minority owned agency”… yea…. Ok.'

how about co-founder of a business that makes great food
or
how about co-founder of a business that makes planes that don't crash

That’s what happens when your CMO is a recycled nepo baby who rode into the top marketing job on the back of a DEI horse.

“Co-founder of a minority owned agency”… yea…. Ok.

Another missed opportunity to go bold and infuse staid marketing with energetic leadership and creative ideas that originate outside the w+k creative thought bubble.
