Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Trash company

I have a professional career of 25+ years. I've never witnessed an employer quite like this. The bullying, constant stress, no raises, more and more responsibilities, DEI b/s, fear of speaking up, etc is just too much. Humana values say to speak up but your manager makes sure you keep your mouth shut or you pay for it. Humana says they promote from within but they do. They hire external leaders who have no clue at all about the actual work. It is oppressive and full of quiet hostility. I work from home and that is the only positive I can say about this company. Everything they push out to employees is a lie. If they send an email saying one thing, believe the opposite is true. Management is so job scared that they do nothing but agree and lick boots. This company is disgusting and everyone is miserable.

Ok, so while I am not blissfully happy and I have been here well over 10 years, I am still very happy to have a job. I definitely appreciate I am not micromanaged in my department. I came from a company where I was micromanaged to the point I felt like I couldn't breath and was constantly looking over my shoulder in fear of losing my job. The pay and increases here are below market and definitely doesn't keep up with inflation, and yes, this is very difficult. But, it beats unemployment. Considering all of that, and knowing UHG (United Health Group) has sent buy out packages to 30k of their employees and are planning a RIF if a certain percentage do not accept; I am extremely happy to be at Humana. I don't think Humana will go unscathed from the uncertainty of CMS and our current administration's strategy of reducing the Federal Government. I am just praying my job survives the aftermath. I have 2 friends caught up in the downsizing of the Federal Government, and it's really heart breaking.

I hate this for you and hate it even more that I can attest to what you are dealing with. I spoke up and was assured there was no retaliation and wow did that sm--k me in the face. We are still in infantry with this new regime, but this Kentucky nepotism needs to end.

Ethics and HR are useless. Trash collectors at best!

You should try speaking to the ethics hotline. Boy is that an experience. Firstly it's outsourced. You have no real chance of getting them to understand your concern and even if they do, everything is brushed under the carper. Think VP and CarePlus for examples. (plural).

For the person asking why don't I just find another job: I work from home and that's the only good thing but it allows me to be here when my kids get off the bus so it isn't as simplistic as you would like to think.

I don't question what you're going thru. I've been in situations at Humana where my manager was a bully, and had numerous people quit or be forced out. I dreaded every interaction with my leader. I worked a crazy amount of hours for years. It took a huge toll on my physical and mental health. But things changed in the last year when I moved to a new role under a different leader. Things have greatly improved. I've been in the workforce for years and, in my opinion, it boils down to the leadership. A good leader makes all the difference, regardless of what is going on in the company. I also agree with the sentiment that we're asked to do more with less. I likely could find something outside Humana but I'm in a good spot -- for the moment.

Why not just quit and find another company that you'd be more happy at?
