Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Do people go to the office on Fridays?

My parking garage is usually full during the week around 8:30 but on Fridays there is no traffic and my garage is pretty empty. I thought we were all 5 days RTO. Just wondering because I'd like to get out of Fridays too, honestly

Well, OP, it really isn’t any of your business when someone takes PTO or comp time, now is it?

My point is, you are not the desk police. Do you. You want Fridays at home? Ask how to get it. Or just show up and focus on your own desk.

After the HR email blitz today I’m sure Fridays will be a bit busier….

Our boss told us we was safe in taking a four day weekend. After all we ain't busy at all. This is one of a very few opportunities to have a nice relaxing extra long weekend. Me and the wife is gonna go furniture shopping, then out to dindin.

Nothing they can do? Have you ever heard of right to work state? They can fire you immediately.

Try this one simple trick:

Just don’t go. There’s nothing they can do.

“ To be clear —if your org is under the 5 x 8 mandate, your immediate supervisor has no flexibility afforded to them to deviate from that requirement. That’s just the facts.”
Not true. I know of some that do. It really depends on your chain of command (VP, AVP). Doesn’t mean you get to wfh every Friday or anything, but there is flexibility if something comes up like you are too sick to come into the office or recovering from an illness and still need to work or would like to work. Or you have some DR appointment that might just make it super inconvenient to the business and yourself to lose commuting when you can do the same thing from home. Those are just some examples. The gotta be in office all the time or you take PTO is just ridiculous. There is supposed to be flexibility per the higher ups.

" You must be fun at parties. Life happens and higher up leadership still have to wfh occasionally. Also, ever hear of PTO?"

Has nothing to do with "fun".

I am just trying to point out that direct supervisors don't have any flexibility to grant any "flex" "work from home" days as a matter of policy, or as a regular thing, or because they like you, or because they're "cool" as many seem to be under the impression of.

Of course, your PTO is your time to take when you want to.

Ge-z. I thought we were all 5 day RTO. People must not be adhering to the mandate from our CEO. They will be dealt with soon.

“ Some bosses give a bit of flex to people…”

I keep seeing this type of comment.

Many people’s five day requirement starts in March so you have that to look forward to

Correct... Not everyone is required to do 5x yet. And some locations even later because they haven't figure out how to cram them in even tighter than those who have been given the March date.

So looking forward to getting even less done when I have to wander around getting away from the smell of someone sitting so close to me. The noise was bad enough, now will come the smell.

Some bosses give a bit of flex to people still (sadly not mine), some are by the book and monitor to the minute of 5x8. Again lots of teams got passes on 5x8 and are still 2-3 days in office. Some people are on PTO and a lot of people in my office are out sick with the flu. But I’m sitting here in the office. Fridays are great, light traffic, easy to get a seat, not as noisy or busy in office. Used to be one of my preferred day in office when we were 3x.

Most of us do skip work on Fridays as there's so many ways to take a paid day off and most of us just dgaf about our work because the company dosen't gaf about us so we give the very least amount of time and effort without getting fired.

Many employees still have 4-day weekends and take off Fridays and Mondays even though they are on the clock.

We aren’t all required to be in the office currently.

Try to pay a bit of attention to the posts here. Or better yet mind your own business and work on your jealousy issues

Beyond that many people like a four day weekend. Monday is a holiday. Perhaps they’re on pto.
