Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Innovation pipeline empty

Our product innovation pipeline has run dry. Something I never thought I’d see from a company that once thrived on creativity and bold ideas. We used to lead in design and marketing, but lately, I haven’t seen anything fresh or exciting that truly resonates with our customers.

As a longtime employee, it’s disheartening to witness what’s happening. Not just with our products, but within our company culture. The energy, passion, and excitement that once defined our teams have faded. Conversations with colleagues keep circling back to the last reorg and the shifts that followed. Morale is low, and it feels like people are losing faith in our leadership and direction.

I want to believe in our company again. I want to see us take bold steps forward. But it’s clear that something needs to change.

It’s all good. I heard Nike x Dank Demoss collab is dropping in SU25. Yoga pants with airbags in them, now that’s innovation!

Been out of the Nike inno mix for a few years but my intuition is that the pipeline is not empty but a failure by leadership to identify, prioritize and drive ideas. The vibe is that success is presenting a compelling idea, not delivering it to the consumer. The former is easy, the latter not so much.

Nike bet the house on being woke over edgy and lost big. Still seems reluctant to fully acknowledge this and cut its losses.

Look on the bright side of things, products developed in the 70’s and 80’s are helping to keep the lights on….

"Nike should put a black box over all products to hide how ugly most of the footwear is."

paint them or use crayons on them
it will at least make them unique

Different colors on a Jordan design from the 90s isn’t innovation?!
