Thread regarding Omnissa layoffs

Recent Severance Package

It boggles my mind why Omnissa wouldn’t have let people go in November which was a BC/VMware funded full year and waited just a few months to let go of almost 10% of their workforce and appear to be paying minimal funds that are coming out of KKR. Sorry to hear that there’s close to 400 caught up in this unfair mess that is shady at best.

They did it that way because Broadcom didn't want to make those payments of severance. By making them wait for after the spinoff, that comes out of Omnissa's pockets.

Let’s take 10 years of service as an example:

  • VMware package would have been 2 months WARN plus 2 months base severance plus (1 week times 10y = 10 weeks = 2.5 months) = 6.5 months total
  • Omnissa package takes the 10y minus 4y to get to 6, then multiply that 6 by 2wks pay = 12 weeks pay (divide by 4wks per mo) = 3 months total

From prior comments here, it seems that Omnissa HR confirmed the WARN 2 mos is within the above total, so no additional.

It seems the Omnissa package is worse by more than a factor of two for this 10 years of service example.

US Employee VMware severance plan was:

  • 2 months WARN period (still on payroll with full benefits)
  • 2 months severance base minimum
  • 1 week pay for every year of service (max 12 weeks)
  • 3 months COBRA subsidy (paid medical/dental)
  • $1000 job search stipend

Re: VMware offered a few months pay PLUS 2 weeks for every year up to 12 weeks.

Why didn’t they just do it in Nov? Had they done it in November some of us wouldn’t have been able to finish bodies of work we were actively engaged on. But now that it’s been wrapped up and minimum viable product is achieved, no longer needed. Plus thinking they would give us more for any reason assumes they care about us. Despite what they say on the calls, we were cogs in their machine. They don’t give two turds about our well being. To think they have at any point is complete lunacy.

“If you have 1 to 4 years = 2 months of pay.
5 years = 2.5 months
6 years = 3 months
10 years = 6 months

Which was exactly what broadcom offered.”

Omnissa’s package is just 2 weeks per year past 4 years capped at 12 weeks. This includes the 60 notice during which we are paid (confirmed by HR). The 12 week cap means you will get no more that ~3 months. When you account for the ~2 month notice while you’re on pay roll, at most you will get 1 additional month of pay.

Nowhere close to VMware’s or Broadcom.

In accurate for 2 reasons. VMware offered a few months pay PLUS 2 weeks for every year up to 12 weeks.

Understand the packages are cr-p. Like the worse in the industry. Start preparing now and apply elsewhere. If you get hit on the next one round of “Strategic alignment”, prepare to use your savings to sustain your family while you find another job.

Of course we do. There is a 5 year schedule of all layoffs, with all names impacted, with all severance details already precisely laid out. We're just not going to tell you

Next cut is coming way sooner, at least two more planned for this year.

The forecast is weak and they are relaying in two mega deals that could not happen if they mess up executing.

Expect more cuts are later this year, get your resumes ready and leave on your time, not someone else's! It's not worth the stress.

They did it that way because the 'leadership' believed they were awesome and the company would go so well they would be on the ft500 in months based off their amazing skills. I suspect they are still feeling the kick in the proverbials even to this very second.
