Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Monday and Happy Thoughts

Well I'm not the kind to live in the past
The years run too short and the days too fast
The things you lean on are the things that don't last
Well it's just now and then my line gets cast into these
Time passages
There's something back here that you left behind
Oh time passages
Buy me a ticket on the last train home tonight

Yeah no, you long commuters are nuts. Even taking a pay cut you’d come out ahead. Do the math on that. If you are rule of 75 and long commuting, take the retirement and find something else. Agree the job market is absolute trash right now, but starting to see some glimmers of hope. I’ve been applying to jobs for a while now and just starting to get some interviews. I’m mid-40s btw, yes it is true the older you get the harder it is to find something. In my 30’s no problem, would have another job within a month or two, now it’s tbd.

If you’re super commuting to another state and living there all week, you must be extremely desperate. I would just get another job, but then again, I have never doubted my ability to gain employment.

I know my worth. I know with absolutely certainty that any company would be lucky to have me. If you don’t have the same confidence and self worth, you should do some self improvement and make your life better.

“ Trailer's for sale or rent
Rooms to let, 50 cents
No phone, no pool, no pets
I ain't got no cigarettes

Ah, but, two hours of pushin' broom
Buys an eight by twelve four-bit room
I'm a man of means by no means
King of the road”

Sounds like everyone is making it happen with a good attitude. I was fortunate to live in a hub city. I would do the same thing if I did not. Commute 4 days to an extended stay or other economical hotel. I am in my mid fifty’s also.

Get a new job? Do you have a mortgage? Kids in college? Job market for people in their 50s and some people in general not the greatest. I have done the commute now for nearly a year from OKC to Dallas and have spent many nights in either the mini van or motel dump. This is until my two kids are out of college which is another 3 years. It is what it is but the prospects for 50+ year olds to land a middle management job at similar pay are at best extremely thin odds

“Thanks just hit the road from Nashville to get to Atlanta for my weekly grind. Live Monday night to Friday morning in low budget area hotel motel. Expenses add up but keeping family going. Wife is a saint. Fortunately during Covid I picked up a lot of side work and much is still going that I can do parallel with ATT work. Folks it could be a lot worse.”

You’re traveling from Nashville and staying in a cr-ppy motel for the entire week and you’re still telling yourself it could be worse?

Dude, that is as bad as it gets. Get a new job.

I come up from Orlando Monday to Friday. There's an extended stay place on Peachtree Industrial inside the perimeter about 10-15 minutes from Lenox. Runs about $60-$70 per night. If I were a woman I wouldn't stay there. I conceal and carry plus have pepper spray and a slapjack. You do what you have to do on a tightened budget.

Just show up and punch the clock for now until the ultimate end demise of ATT which will come at the hands of Private Equity players.
