Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T Can’t Dictate Hours Myth

I’ve read over and over that “AT&T isn’t legally allowed to dictate your hours or amount of time in office (M-F, 8-5) because you’re salary” - this simply isn’t true!

Have you ever worked in a store as a manager? You literally have a schedule that says “you must be in the store during these hours”

Do you think doctors don’t have to show up at a hospital at specific times? What about teachers? All salaried!

Please stop spreading these lies!

Yes att has paid overtime back pay in class action flsa lawsuits where employees were incorrectly classified as exempt. That's not the same thing as telling employees where they need to work and what their schedule should be. Items in previous sentence have nothing at all to do with overtime.

Right, and AT&T did not have to pay employees in a similar situation months of back overtime due to a class action lawsuit. Oh wait, they did have to do that. Learn some law before waxing intelligent on the subject, you legal department clerical support sc-mbag.

"Update the job description in writing that says as a salaried employee I must be in the office at specific hours, 40 hours per week"

Because this is such common knowledge it doesn't need to be written? must be a bot. Does any real person think they are entitled to a salary and can work wherever and how much they want?
OP - agree with you.

Maybe you brainiacs should understand American labor laws vs other countries.

I know every Republican loves the free market, but that also means stankey can take advantage of you!

Unless you are in a union, have a contract with AT&T, or are discriminated against because you’re in a protected class (and remote work isnt protected), you virtually have no rights! They can tell you what they want to do, where to work, how many hours to work, lower your wages, fire you - anything!

“ …when one is FT virtual and the other has to spend 10 hours a week commuting?
Seems like unfair treatment - is that against the law?”

No. It isn’t. What “law” do you theorize is being broken in that scenario there Magnum PI?

Could very well be “unfair”. But the way some of you make the leap from that to “illegal” is comical.

“It’s not illegal. Unless you are under a contract or union, they can dictate whatever they want. One person can be dictated to wfh, another in the office 40 hours a week at specific times”

Shut up dude. I’m going to do what I want while you and others shake in your boots and wet your pa-ties because your dog supervisor is barking. Put your b.s. in writing. Update the job description in writing that says as a salaried employee I must be in the office at specific hours, 40 hours per week. Come on chicken sh-t. Write it down. Not going to happen.

It’s not illegal. Unless you are under a contract or union, they can dictate whatever they want. One person can be dictated to wfh, another in the office 40 hours a week at specific times, another standing outside holding a sign saying “I’m a big boy”. You have at will employment. Learn a little before spewing nonsense.

How about this...

Can the company legally compare/rank two workers with the same job title doing the same work when one is FT virtual and the other has to spend 10 hours a week commuting?

Seems like unfair treatment - is that against the law?

Most doctors are h1b now. You're already getting paid like doctors. Just not the white and black ones.

So your saying we should be paid like doctors? I like that idea. We need to be paid like doctors if we're going to work a doctors hours.
