Because Nike doesn't make clothes for people over 30
@pz+1jk03bbeg Go see SL - he’s awesome and is always open to any feedback. Just be nice.
@pz+1
Nerd. I’m going to call you out when I see your Patagonia this week. If you’re Nike through and through you’d buy ACG or one of Nike’s many puffers.
While I agree that it’s taboo for a VP to wear a non-nike, visible logo, during an all-team meeting…. Patagonia and Nike are not direct competitors. Patagonia and ACG are not direct competitors either. Last I checked, ACG doesn’t report total sales and Patagonia is only selling $1.5B per year, as a b-corp.
As someone who grew up as a buyer in the outdoor retail industry, Patagonia is a brand that was born serving technical mountaineers, skiers, hikers and bikers. Their technical outerwear is far superior, leveraging industry best practices and technology, including Gore Tex, taped seams and sustainable down materials. Long before ACG or SB made anything to cater to outdoor sports athletes. If you were to take an ACG jacket and compare it to a technical garment from Patagonia, there is absolutely no comparison outdoors or extreme weather conditions.
Remember, Nike is a footwear company. We make sportswear for people to wear as the icing on the footwear cake. We sell shoes direct to the consumer as well as our wholesale partners. Nike does not attend Outdoor Retailer, and you will rarely find our products in niche outdoor retailers that sell hard goods like skis, snowboards, climbing gear etc. If you disagree, tell me a store where you can try on an ACG jacket next to a Patagonia jacket.
All that said, I’m Nike through and through. But don’t try to dox me this week when it’s snowing and I’m wearing a Patagonia jacket to-from work over an all-nike fit.
@h4+1jk03bbeg Since this site doesn’t have privacy protections I will not share any text. However, if you are a Nike employee you know this.
It’s also in your day 1 instructions as an ETW.
This is standard industry practice and exists at all brands I know of.
@gn+1jk03bbeg please share the text of the written policy. Cultural expectations/peer pressure is not a policy.
"Sorry but Columbia has much jackets than ours. If we start to make decent jackets then yes I will wear Nike.
Culture vs. Keep my body warm…I go with the later one"
It's actually a statement and real leaders do it all the time.
They su-k it up.
"VP wears Patagonia to first all team meeting"
Change your title to
"Privileged id--t wears Patagonia to first all team meeting"
: @g2+1jk03bbeg They do for VPs.
The Swoosh does not provide clothing/uniform allowance or have "uniform" requirements. Nike is a job, not a cult. Props to the new guy for wearing what he wants.
Who?
I love the ACG line. Still have a fleece coat similar to The North Fave and a couple water resistant coats. Always been a favorite.

Go see SL (head of ACG). New business unit. Give him a little time. He is walking around on campus and stops people wearing competitors brand and offers them free ACG jackets / apparel. No excuses.
Despite the fact that our outdoor gear is mediocre and most coats are only water resistant. I’d never wear another brand to work. Maybe on the ski slopes but not to work…get a culture and a swagger back.
If we stop making two types of jackets, maybe we could wear more Nike branded stuff. I struggle finding anything presentable outside of two jackets which are pretty thin in nature, unless I want to look like I’m 21 when I’m 40.
So I wear other branded jackets including Columbia.
Global Tech for sure!
Which org?
What a clown.
Not even, it’s something you sign not to wear competitor on product when joining and a fire-able offense.
