Anyone have information on the hiring “pause” aka freeze happening? How long will it last and who is impacted? Why is it happening? I noticed existing roles aren’t able to be filled, it isn’t just the newly created roles that aren’t available.

I do not know if any of you still works for the swoosh, if yes then all posts are worthless. If you have paid any attention to what is happening around you, then you would know that this happens each year. Sometimes in Q3, but mostly after new year, "hiring freeze". Seriously wake up guys, if you are so unhappy, leave. If your boss is annoying the he-l out of you, leave. if you think they are discriminating, speak up or leave. If you think that your career is suffering because you are at Nike, leave. But such a simple thing that happens every friggin year makes up here as a "big" question, gimme a break!
Hiring freeze will turn into a layoff. My prediction is January. Sorry HR, your holiday is ruined.
Today my LinkedIn profile is flooded with niketech jobpostings. IT does't look like a hiring pause?
The frustrating part is that they continue to post and interview for these roles, only to then “pause” the role when it’s being offered to a candidate. Why even post the roles or waste peoples time interviewing? Terrible candidate experience. Now just have to wait for an “undisclosed” amount of time to officially offer the role.
Adidas and Under Armour also have hiring freezes
In Tech they are getting rid of onshore contractors and replacing them with unqualified offshore ones
Sometimes people post rhetorical questions as bait and this question seems a little obvious but if we pretend it's a legit inquiry there's some easy answers. You don't need to be an insider to figure out a hiring pause at Nike was 100% going to happen. Many, many publicly traded companies have announced or hinted at some sort of hiring freeze over the last few months. Many other companies have started doing mass layoffs already.
In case you aren't up to speed on business news, everyone is expecting a recession to hit very soon which will slow demand, drive down profits and create pressure to cut costs. Nike's last quarterly earnings report was not great. People are not buying Nike products as much as predicted, there is an unprecedented glut of product in the marketplace (this is true for many consumer goods companies and not just Nike). Nike's stock is at nearly half it's value from earlier highs.
If things don't turn around soon don't assume this hiring pause is where it ends...this is just the first phase. If things continue to look bad in terms of global economics Nike will do more than just pause hiring, layoffs will be the next lever. Without a shift in increased buying for the big Holiday season, the only tangible option to use to maintain target numbers will be to squeeze operating overhead and improve margins which means cut the headcount rolls. JD's management style is not one to sacrifice profitability over retaining employees so he will not hesitate to cut thousands of roles if it will ensure a positive earnings report. None of this is inside knowledge, just common business sense for any company facing headwinds.
Don't expect the hiring pause to be lifted anytime soon. More likely than not it will be through most of next calendar year or longer depending on how deep the recession hits. I am not doom and gloom about Nike. The company isn't going anywhere, this is just a normal business reaction to typical economic cycles. Even though it's not "fun" to hear that the company you work for is pausing hiring as a reflection of reduced product demand...at least Nike is doing something and not pretending that there aren't choppy waters that are being navigated.
Could have meant "paws" - meaning more shoe sales and 50% salary increase!
Sorry, bad joke.
