Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Baffling

Why would anyone go vastly above and beyond after being dumped on by their manager for several years in a row? No raises for three years = they don't want you there. Get the hint!

It's someone I know that I'm trying to convince to get OUT. But noooo, keeps working very long hours. Volunteers for everything. Does all the mentoring, the higher level belts and on and on and on. Probably does the job of a whole team of folks. Yet, no recognition and no respect.

Just going to get a divorce, poor health and LAID OFF ... for all the effort.

They also might not be exposed to projects that would help obtain external interviews. The manager might be saving those projects for his friends

They may get targeted for layoffs and then the decision will be made for them. We have a handful like that (low ipf, no raise, minimal bonus). Interviews are tough too. Almost impossible to move to another tech company without an internal referral.

It's a martyr complex sprinkled in with some good ol' virtue signaling. Avoid people like this at all costs.

This describes an old friend of mine to a tee. Whenever he would call me, all he wanted to do was whine about "muh hard work not bein' upreeshiated". Eventually I stopped taking his calls altogether until he finally got the hint.

Everybody creates the reality they want and some people want to be victims.

She is too exhausted from her 12 hour work days to find another job. She's on a hamster wheel and won't jump off of it. It's nuts.

After the third year of getting shafted, she should be "working her wage" and focusing on moving on. As I've read here, it's a relationship based company. So, spending all day, every day actually "working" is not an effective strategy.

Maybe they can't get interviews externally? Cisco doesn't have the same brand anymore
