Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

GM layoffs

Any idea when the next GM layoffs will start?

We still have directors with 3 direct reports. We have AVPs reporting to AVPs. Level 1 and 2s are getting sla-ghtered with work and I have completely given up at this company.

The real fat is the contractor population, they out number union + management by a wide margin.

The revenue per employee numbers dear lord Stankey obsesses over would greatly improve if we got off the contractor teet.

The SS T-tantic is extremely “top heavy” & needs to cut at least two layers of extraneous, overpaid “VP’s”. Of course, they won’t do that as it makes too much sense.

There are L4’s with zero reports or maybe 1-2. You can’t tell me their contributions are worth the title and comp package. What in the F do they do?

Yet those of us L2/L3 ind contributors are working our butt’s off with actual partners and customers getting things done and we’re the ones getting demoted, surplussed OR BOTH.

at high levels, employees with contracts can stay until they find work elsewhere. Some contracts allow one year before booted out.

Nearly 40% of GMs across the entire company have been cut in the last six months. Mostly the best technical minds we have that were individual contributors. In many cases, the choice was surplus or demotion, in a few, it was demotion THEN surplus.

Not nearly as much blood for GMs that are just people managers.

A lot of L3 individual contributors were directors before with little headcount and to move to these roles. I can name at least 5 people. There are some that deserve the title.

Biggest issue I see is they give out Director Technology titles to those who don’t deserve it.

"Please there are still plenty of L3s with zero reports."

Not all "managers" at any level are supervisory. They're usually in specialized roles that qualify for that level of pay and benefits.
