Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Meta is taking a page out of Cisco's book

Posted by an ex-Meta employee: "Contrary to whatever odd beliefs people may have, folks fearing for their job aren't infinitely more productive the more you threaten them. It strips people of dignity."

Meta has nothing on Cisco. Cisco has been stripping people of their dignity with lay offs for years.

Welcome to the cootie couch Meta! Just find a spot and squish in.

Who was that cancerous HR guy that went from GE to Microsoft to Cisco years back with that garbage?

I don't remember John Chambers working in HR or at Microsoft but he was definitely an acolyte of "Neutron" Jack Welch. Despite the massive stock value failure, layoffs, rank and yank, wage freezes, dry promotions, and a host of other things he's still worshiped by many here. Chambers made a big deal about "don't fall into the trap of helping other people" which is odd because the job description of most senior ranks includes helping whole teams to perform better, which almost no one actually did.

Back to stack ranking. In order to succeed, I need my teammates to fail so I am not on the bottom. Who was that cancerous HR guy that went from GE to Microsoft to Cisco years back with that garbage?

The worst thing I have dealt with for all but my 1st year here before seeing the firings trend is not being able to comfortably spend the money Im making. After seeing the constant layoffs and lack of job security I started saving 50% of my salary to be able to cover all bills in case Im tossed into the lousy job market and jobless for an extended period of time.

I don't deal with Meta directly but I have used many Apple and Google products and they both need to layoff a large percentage of their software staff. The problem isn't "not productive enough," it's "catastrophic failure." The same goes for Cisco.
