Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

IF Retire Eligible Time to Leave

To All Legacy Employees.
Here are the Health Cares I signed up for.

Heathcare.gov
I put in $72000 a year income for two.
BCBS Blue Bronze PPO. Basically what I currently have now ending end of month but better.
Cost. $0 as I get a tax deferred cost. My income for 2 is under $74,000.
Dental
BCBS Blue PPO. Cost $45 a month.
Vision
EyeMed
Coverage Healthy
$10.50.

I will never work again. These prices are cheaper than working as a Manager.
Time for you to Leave The Death Star.

Remember that covid shot you were forced to take? The next five years are going to be rough unfortunately. Retire now and at least enjoy a few more years. Good luck and Godspeed!

Don’t worry about me, I’m the guy you look at and wonder what it takes to look and feel this good. It’s called a healthy lifestyle and you don’t start when it’s too late.

I have been to the funerals of a lot of guys that talked like this.

“ Healthcare is astronomically high but every insurance choice out there is cheaper and provides better coverage than the cr-p this company provides.

substandard, absolutely poor healthcare insurance, mediocre 401k matching, mediocre-to-poor salaries”

You can say alot of things about the company but none of the above is accurate. Not even close…

  • this statement only accurate if you are in the C-suite. Then, yes, this company is wonderful to you

“A decade in which many will start dropping dead if they don't get basic screenings and blood work to screen for potential serious health issues. Also, a serious healthcare issue with no insurance will easily bankrupt you.

Good job for you on not needing health care.”

You’re just a fat slob who lacks discipline. I eat healthy, go to the gym, run, and exercise. He-l I still snowboard with my son.

Serious illness? That’s what the Emergency room is for. They can’t deny you service. Oh and when the bill comes, who cares. Don’t pay it, ask a charity to pay it, or just set up a payment plan with low installments.

Even if you don’t pay, it no longer affects your credit. Who cares!

The ACA is no bargain. Very high annual out of pocket expenses. Your 74k will drop to 60k very quickly if you need anything other than flu shots.

Good Luck

After reading this post I realize how stooped and unhealthy my coworkers are.

How about you try eating healthy and exercising?

I don’t even need healthcare! I never go to the doctor ever and I’m in my 50’s!

I didn't realize the marketplace was based on income, not assets. This is a goldmine!

OP - not to rain on your parade, but the ACA subsidies expire at the end of 2025, and we all know how the new administration feels about government sponsored health care. If those subsidies do not get extended, be prepared for some serious sticker shock with your monthly premiums in 2026! Most folks will need to find at least a part-time job that offers healthcare coverage until they reach the age of 65 if that happens.

Right, and while they are at it they will privatize social security and pay off the national debt. The subsidies are not going anywhere. Politicians know where the bread gets buttered.

My new company…
Quit stalking here. Move on already

Just trying to provide some reassurance to former peers that there are better options out there. If you’re not one of those folks, I’m happy for you. Stay classy!

Correct. It’s a lot cheaper. We always use my wife’s insurance at her small company because it’s cheaper AND better even paying the penalty.

We do have a good 401k match and internet benefit. That’s about it. Employee wireless plan can be beat off the street a T mobile. Pay is low to mid compared to other places, especially if you’ve been here a while you are behind.

These are all facts. Also part of the reason I’m leaving. I can do better somewhere else. It’s a business decision.

My new company offers a really good selection of plans with MUCH lower deductibles than T at 20-30% less. Years ago, SWBT/SBC and even T had a good array of plans and deductible options at decent rates. No longer the case. Anyone staying there for their “benefit options” should really do some research and see what other companies are offering. T knows most employees will be too scared or lack the relevant skills to move until “forced” to do so. It is uncomfortable. Get the education and training on their dime now. Invest in yourself. It’ll pay dividends for you in the long run.

If you can keep your AGI low enough in retirement, healthcare is free and no capital gains tax. It takes some financial dancing, but it can be done. And yes the ACA plans are the exact same plans offered through the company, and can even be cheaper than what you are paying while working.

I've been looking too. I have a lot of pre-existing conditions which requires lots of doctor visits, imaging per year, and prescriptions. EVERYTHING on healthcare.gov is cheaper than getting Cobra and fuggaboutit the stupid-@$$ medical out-of-pocket offer company 'allows' us to have after Cobra.

Healthcare is astronomically high but every insurance choice out there is cheaper and provides better coverage than the cr-p this company provides.

substandard, absolutely poor healthcare insurance, mediocre 401k matching, mediocre-to-poor salaries, and now throw in 5x8 mandated RTO in overcrowded offices with insufficient parking with temporary, daily, hunger game seating, no privacy, micromanaged beyond Orwell's best dreams . . . . why anyone stays in this company that is not a C-suite manager is beyond me.

Everyone I know both inside and outside of this company thinks AT&T is ridiculous. Horrible policies, products, and services. Thanks Randall and John!
