Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

10 year employee. Received better offer elsewhere. I out.

Started looking early December. Got offer today to start Feb 1. More money, show up in office 1 day a week. What’s funny is that recruiter that reached out mid December knew of AT&Ts issues and was former employee 2years prior.

Making 34K more on my base. Do what is best for you. I decided not to wait and move on. You can put you’re open to work on LinkedIn ONLY to recruiters, to not out yourself. Companies are hiring now. Don’t wait if you can find better out there. Maybe it works out, maybe it doesn’t, but glad to know it wasn’t too much of a hassle to transition. Smaller org under 700 people adjacent to what AT&T is minus the telco. Just focusing on fiber build out for now. Company received 120million grant last year and in growth phase, I’ll have direct impact on day-to-day business of this smaller company instead of inevitably becoming a “yes man” at AT&T.

Just sharing to give inspiration to anyone in search now.

Landed a 200k remote roll. There’s life after T.

For 200k they are going to want you to know the difference between a roll and a role.

Congratulations and hope it works out for you. Never know what technology will evolve but not sure how long this fiber bo-m will continue. Still an awful lot that can or will be placed (or whatever your role is.) However right now it looks like a lot of that work is one and done. Mentioned 10 years but doubt this bo-m will continue that long. Good luck.

People stay at AT&T so long they don’t know what else is out there or scared to jump(for good reason or not). That is how you get your money up. Good on ya. Stop hating people. Work on YOUR life.

Congrats! Don’t let the lifer comments below scare you. It’s because those folks accept what’s happening to us that we are in this mess. Change of scenery is nice, I’m working on it myself.

Small companies are great to work for. You get to see much more of how the company functions. Go there and learn as much as you can. It will help you going forward. You might even change careers.

Congratulations but just remember when you work at a smaller company there’s nowhere to hide, and layoffs happen far more often, and with little to no warning, especially at companies that are PE and VC backed.

Did you put a good reason contingency clause in your contract? Did you negotiate for 4 to 6 months (or more pay) if they decide to cut you loose? And for them to reimburse you for COBRA? Do all of that at the next job. It’ll probably be here sooner than you think.
