Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Sick? Stay home.

Seriously. If you are sick, stay home. If you are coughing all day, stay home. Why are you bringing that into the office? Gross and disrespectful.

Some are being forced into the office to work. Managers want to control people. As cuts may come - showing up in office may prevent you from getting cut.

Big snow system coming in. Guess we all have to call in sick. Expected to come into work with no mercy. What happened to Safety First?

Personally saw someone going through severe hard time just because that person took sick leaves. Sick leaves were approved in workday but after a year, suddenly became an issue. Document your communication with your reporting manager when it comes to vacation/sick leaves. Might become useful if this leads to a bigger problem later on.

Whoever the person reports to could send them home....if they are present to see it.

To the original poster. I have long Covid and I can’t shake this cough. Your attitude is gross. Why don’t you stay home?

You’ve got the poor leadership part right but making an ethics complaint? That’s like complaining to the warden in jail. The retaliation would be insane.

LOL!! Forgot one!

File an ethics complaint, get laid off

Weak ineffective leaders require their staff to be visible to be effective. If my leader threatened my job for taking a sick day and avoiding spreading any illness I would be filing an ethics complaint. This seems like poor leadership in some departments.

Cause we back to pre covid times meaning if you aren’t dead you better be in your chair otherwise you risk not being counted in the daily staff inventory.

The treatment is not the same nor fair in different locations. We show up sick because we do like our vacation time to be just that. Lucky you that you have a boss that lets you stay home to work when you feeling unwell.
A lot of us work in toxic environments. Non union. Supervisors have been in their same positions for many years. They love the scare tactics and control. Show up sick or take a vacation day is the only option. Their numbers look better for their Managers so they can get good fat raises and bonuses on our backs. ‘“Look. My staff has no sick time”

I have been with this company for over 15 years, always been in an individual contributor role. I have 5 weeks vacation, 12 SDO's and the 12 stat holidays. Opted to remain on my Flex 40 AWA, point is, I get a lot of time off and I am encouraged by my leadership team to take it all. My point, if you are convinced people are being being laid off for taking your vacation entitlement, taking the odd sick day and not abusing the generous policy, you need better leadership. Make that happen for yourself.

Take a sick day, get laid off
Take a vacation, get laid off
Take a SDO, get laid off
Doesn't matter what you do, or don't do, get laid off
7,000 laid off workers over the past 8 years, get laid off
See the pattern, get laid off!

Welcome to 2025. Optics. Where you don’t feel psychologically safe to take a sick day.
