I didn’t read the article but find it ironic that Nike has promoted and retained the most toxic women leaders, while getting rid of some of the best over the past 10 years.

“The themes included s-xual harassment and discrimination, fear of retaliation, distrust of human resources, lack of career development and a persistent boys’ club culture, Strong said in a March deposition”

Retaliation, distrust of Human Resources, lack of career development and persistent boys (now boys and girls) club all still exist.

Why? Because HR is full of spineless, soulless leaders who lack both skills and courage. They are more worried themselves and their big ole paychecks.

what is more puzzling is if HR is here to protect the company, why choose to protect toxic people who violate the policies ?

They protect people with titles or are just plain lazy, interested in collecting paycheck without doing real work.

I came back to this site after reading the Oregonian article. I left several years ago after seeing the writing on the wall once I was deemed “not a good teammate” for wanting to make my area better rather than just doing what I was told without questioning or having an opinion. Sounds like nothing has changed. P.S. - always remember that Nike HR is not your friend.

Article says MP, then CEO said in all employee meeting - "We are taking action - If you raised an issue, there will be a process of getting back to you personally"

6+ years later, this is not fixed.
I have seen people who raise concerns, are isolated, pushed out.
Process of getting back personally is - Meeting with HR to be walked out :(

The toxic managers are protected, and number of toxic managers has increased in the last 6 years. They have a system of self-preservation.

Is there any hope for culture to change?
EH - Is he aware, he needs to address the culture and not just business for real turnaround?

The article is insightful. Didn't know that HJ has such a huge hand in Starfish. Probably a combination at being furious at losing the CSO job and having a lot of free time during the Valiant Lab fiasco.

… so true that the new women in leadership now have their own role in creating toxic culture

Women now have their own role in helping in the toxic culture. Once they got rid of the old guard, some women simply joined in the behavior. I’ll bet no one is setting up a secret survey to showcase those bad behaved people. Women sometimes are just as bad as others.

Let’s just say what it is. It’s bias people with their own agendas that seek power and don’t seek to understand.

And I’m a woman writing this.

culture is still toxic. Not only for women but a lot of hardworking employees.
The values have changed for being a leader at Nike -- Stealing Credit, Micromanagement , Lying, Fear Mongering , Incompetence, hire/promote friends (flattery).......

God bless the good ones that exist and hope they have not been silenced.

Everyone walking on eggshells
No one challenging the terrible decision making due to fear of “not being a good teammate”
Scared money don’t make money
