For folks in India who received invites - did they say "Subject: Important Team Update"
What was subject and was it to a small part of population?

The trend the last 2 rounds has been right before the earnings call so they can save on paying off stock/merit awards and/or bonuses. Regardless of what happens, know your worth and remember it's just business at the end of the day even though it feels like a kick in the @#$&...

"Poor performance" is a stupid excuse. Let's have external neutral compliance audit? They will call off the "poor performance" excuse.

Why leave when it’s coming. If not now it will only be another year.

Why not just leave if you are so unhappy? The packages may not be worth hanging around for.

Sure, let’s hope that’s at least 10% WTH

Please god the cuts come and it’s more than 5% I want to ensure I can get out.

Previously on Knotts Landing - Sleepless in US alluded to idea that "Needs Improvement" could be precursor to identifying 5% of employee population to cut. Few hours later headlines hit "Meta is cutting 5% of its ‘lowest performers’". Still believe this is a possibility for PayPal and maybe new trend in industry for 2025. Last year it was 9% and analysts responded well. On the other hand, last year we shifted workforce to top priorities, remove less value add services and if this was a success, perhaps "Needs Improvement" is nothing more that a HR Gimmick to get employees to compete for coveted rewards and in theory drive more productivity. However, we know this does not actually work and reduces collaboration and team work. Ironically HR never has to quantify their ideas work, they just take credit for the win, get promoted and move on to the next way to reduce employee satisfaction scores. Again, we are left with a Schrödinger's cat thought experiment here on this board. Only time will tell.

There is not going be any concrete evidence unless more senior leaders break a code of silence and post. Everything is opinion at this point. On one hand there was no review by middle managers for cuts like previous years. On other hand could be middle managers had loose lips in previous years so to avoid this they used a new pay for performance system to identify 5% of employees as a potential population for workforce reduction. Either way, circle of trust is small and middle managers have not been told no cuts, but rather we don't know yet what leadership wants to do. For anyone who is a people manager here, consider the HR guidelines for mandatory Rewards reductions for "needs improvement". Unusual new twist so the plot thickens. Unfortunately both futures are possible so guess here we are with nothing more than a Schrödinger's cat thought experiment. We will know in 2 weeks the fate of the cat.

I recall someone mentioning the same thing last year: "...The last two times we knew in December these were coming was lots of talk. Not a thing mentioned this year..."

There will not be any redundancies this year in January. The last two times we knew in December these were coming was lots of talk. Not a thing mentioned this year. Prepare yourself to still work for this sh-t company

They should ask people and make it voluntary
I do not want to leave
Most of my colleagues do
It’s unfair to do it in such a way

Do think they consider this time of year for organizational changes they want to make to align workforce with priorities for next year. Also they may expect some attrition after March, which could prevent giving packages like previous years. I welcome package myself and asked my leader if there are any US layoffs for my team, please put my name on list instead. While I do not believe the quota's on promotions, pay for performance changes, sabbatical policy and ways of working were intended to make people want to exit, anything is possible. Seems risky because talent could walk out the door versus people you don't want to stay. For me, I have already prepared for both futures. Cleaned up phone, laptop and did a little planning mentally on what's next. Really all one an do.

It’s a little naive to suggest they’ll do that process. Suspect anyone in lowest rating will be on the block - they’ll officially say there’s a process but expect them to go. Sorry but that’s pretty much what happened previously with a tweak here or there

I'm in EE and haven't heard of anyone being let go. I don't think they could be let go for poor performance without going through the proper process either. They need to be given a chance to improve. If they were let go there's probably more to the story.

I’m wondering if they are just going to let the lowest ranked employees go, instead of doing layoffs. Some people in EE were let go this week, no CC or PIP, just told they weren’t meeting the performance requirements.

Unfortunately it’s not always about how many people we hired. But see the amount changes the new CEO has brought and now as the changes trickle down to IC’s we will see a lot of empire building here .where they will cut down the existing staff and bring in the favorites so how can we guarantee the cuts won’t be large numbers?

There will always be layoffs. Likely not a huge one again. Unfortunately after our previous CEO laid off 2,000 people, we hired 2,000 more throughout the year leading to another layoff to. Our actual number of employees has remained lower and costs were cut this time so hopefully we won't see a cut like the last two for many years. Small layoffs are always occurring so one should just always be prepared.

When you say you’re nervous, do you mean that it won’t come? Surely you don’t want to stay in this toxic company
