That’s the goal that has been communicated to them in presentations.

I tend to beleive it

The bargained employee count is ~60-62K per T's own accounting. There is no way the company could get to 65k total within a year without HUGE craft cuts, like at least 25%. And even then, there would have to be cuts of about 60% to everybody else, and a great number converted from T employees to contractors, including offshore.

“ Remember, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is posed as a revolutionary technology to do the same or more!”

More like overhyped, over-pitched technocrat utopian propaganda!

Company please make it as painful with RTO meaning no severance for the ones still hanging out with more than 30 but especially 40years. They are milkers and holding up real needed hires that are young and starting to raise a family.
When you hear someone bragging I have been here 35, 37, 40 years it’s like gosh you messed up

Problem is folks still around with 30 plus years did not financially plan and the other is they had to keep up with Jones with new cars, etc not to mention sending their kids to colleges at a cost of $250k or more when could have went to school and landed a more and better paying job

AT&T could definitely function with 65k employees (or less). They'd likely need to drop some things but it would force the company to prioritize.

If you think I'm crazy just remember when automation wiped out AT&T Operator Services on the 1990's which included 100's of thousands of employees. Remember, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is posed as a revolutionary technology to do the same or more!

Most employees that handle wireline/telco are some of the safest for the next several years. The company doesn’t want to train new people to handle the product. Good news is most employees are older and ready to retire in a few years. It’s a win-win.

"Cutting the fat " from where? Will this be mostly wireline? How many people work in wireline?

This was the thread where this 65k number started. The article referenced was later edited.

Company can’t function with 65k total employees

65k was misconstrued. It was said that 65k would be cut but that was back in 2017 up through now. So it’s already happened.

I heard the target total headcount is roughly 90k. I don't think the company can run with 65k.

65K fewer or total employees. Either way that is a lot of severance or lawyers.
