Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Verizon stock

Today's trading sideways feels like a win at this point. This is depressing. I feel bad for everyone's 401k....

I own zero Verizon stock, I opt'd out of it 7 years ago. It is not required to be a part of your 401k, you just have to call the 401k administrator and make the change. I did that because employees do not get the dividend payout back into their 401k.

Why would anyone have Verizon stock in their 401k

Not to defend Verizon, but you should of removed any elections to Verizon a years ago and just keep it in the available targeted mutual funds, which are mostly large cap index funds. Also by default, the elections % of contributions into just Verizon stock isn't that much, so even if your 401k is tanking, Verizon didn't have that much to do with it.
