AT&T’s workforce shrank from 281,000 employees as of January 31, 2016 to 203,000 as of January 31, 2022. Meanwhile, Comcast Cable went from 88,000 employees as of December 31, 2015 to 79,000 six years later, while Verizon’s workforce shrank from 177,700 to 118,400 over the same period.
Fiber is NOT halting for 2 years! The fiber deployment is starting up in Mesa, AZ to residential customers and that is the most recent news.
Expect a much more higher than normal layoff in ACE orgs that support IFP build. 20-30% reduction is more realistic based on how budgets going forward have changed and because of the higher cost of employees through inflation over the course of this year.
Director informed us quietly on Monday that layoffs are indeed coming (ACE) by Feb 1. Waiting to see what kind of attrition ie retirements take place as of 1/1, than the existing budgeted headcount’s will be bounced against targeted 5-10% cuts. If your org/team is running below alotted headcount you are in better shape than those not. So if your budget headcount is 100, your target is 10 layoffs. If you’re currently operating with 95 than you would see 5 bodies actually get cut. Not great buy or-a that run lean we’re smart to do so. This isn’t isolated it’s Construction, engineering, Radio Access Network etc. Everyone is going to feel it.
The rumors are swirling today….fiber build is shutting down for two years…I assume IFP and backbones….then with that T wants 35 % of management gone.
That's perfect, funny!
D-mb and D-mber
What is DMDR?
Is our center the only one that knows that the entire Birmingham, Alabama DMDR is be surpluses Jan 15th? That's been confirmed by the Brian the VP. They even let our Director go. His last day is December 1st. Look around you. Its not just T.
You should go back and watch recent Town Hall replays. Imminent 2023 layoffs have been discussed in almost all of them.
"Any layoffs will be announced 60 days before people are off the payroll."
Those days are long gone....14 days and you're out!
That happened to me. That's the way it is now. No 60 days. It's 14 days and you're gone, adios MF, and it doesn't mean "my friend".
In that 14 days time my sh---y little sn-t-nosed AVP (who never should have been promoted past individual contributor) kept calling me up and asking me what I did the day before, what I worked on, and every fu----g day reminded me the company still expected me to work and perform knowledge transfer to the unfortunate soul who'd be taking over my workload. I made up bogus sh-t and kept telling her I was examining the documentation the company sent me on layoff benefits, medical, etc. I kept telling the d-mbshit I have a family and must do what is right for them, and WILL take all the time I need.
Meanwhile my dotted-line boss who I was actually working for told me completely differently. Told me to take care of what I need to take care of, don't worry about work or knowledge transfer since they knew what I was working on and already took care of it.
This company has the absolute WORST leadership and management I have ever seen. Young, sh---y managers who only know how to manage by spreadsheet, no people skills whatsoever, no technical skills whatsoever, who only know how to drive a powerpoint and change red arrows to blue arrows.
As he said...no one is safe. Don't be surprised when you get tapped.
Layoffs at T will never ever subside...eroding revenue streams with no growth will see to that. Take what you know and find a company with a viable future...it isn't here.
If we have to drive to work. Get rid of people that work from home.
Yeah, sure, check with the National...Enquirer! That's more about the likelihood of an offer like this occurring! Keep reading this garbage and you'll recognize that most of the nonsense on here is exactly that! Don't believe a word of it!
We will be combining locations in wireline support to hub cities and letting the smaller groups atrit out. We will close under performing centers especially ones where there are a lot of grievances and EEO complaints. There will be a surplus offer for bargained Q1 and no voluntary surplus for management. Leaders have 100% said this in town halls. No one should be surprised.
Highly probable at this point that CWA represented technicians will receive a one time enhanced offer (likely in the neighborhood of 5/5/$5k), That’s the most up to date information available. Don’t take my word for it. Check with the National. They know what’s been going on behind the scenes.
The reality is, layoffs here will never subside until a clear direction for the company is set. The C Suite simply does not have a plan to right the ship, so absent that, they continue to surplus and cut technology investment….that isn’t sustainable and spells disaster for all involved. You will continue to see assets sold off, direct employees outsourced and erosion of the brand. Wall Street has no confidence in T, while other technologies are well respected, want to know why ? Good leadership, clear communication of company growth plans and agile shift as a results of market based forces….we have none of that. One day, we’ll wake up and be called to an all hands call and the rest will sadly be history.

They’re coming in 1Q in ACE, per leadership. We just don’t know how many, as the number that are currently retiring does factor into the equation.
Well, there is the strong possibility that bargained for technicians will receive a one time enhanced offer (likely in the neighborhood of 5/5/$5k), That’s the most up to date information available
NO, ABSOLUTELY NOT, this is never gonna happen!!! Stop blowing sunshine up people's butts hoping that some EVP or AVP will read this and say, "Hey, why not?" This will never happen in the SBC run C-suite!
Not looking for a pay to leave. They are planning to move everyone's job reporting location to force everyone to quit on their own. Expect frequent moves for job locations as far away as possible and in the worst parts of town with the worst traffic issues, and they have not forgot parking. They are planning 100k terminations company wide.
Stankey will get an $8M dollar raise for this.

Attend the next town hall for your org. Your leadership will provide information about 2023 layoffs.
