It's true that O is in trouble in several areas, but I wonder if RIFs are the only solution. Leadership seems to think so and doesn't look for any other solutions, which is really frustrating.

You have to understand that management at Oracle is not really management. They’re just a bunch of guys pretending to be managers. They have no idea what they are doing. They just make up sh-t and lie a lot. They only have the capacity to think of very simple “solutions” and one of the criteria for a solution is that nothing should ever point back at them. Layoffs are a simple-minded idea and laying off people below them throws the blame away from them. It’s really pretty simple. They will never lay off themselves or anyone they need to make themselves look good. Laying off competent people below them may be stupid in the long term but they don’t care about that. They are concerned about the immediate future. No one will bother to figure out that a group failed in a couple of years from now because the wrong people were laid off. They’ll make something else up when the time comes. There is no long term accountability for management. Simple minds produce simple “solutions”.
Let’s face it - Oracle prefers to RIF US citizens while continuing to bring in predominantly Indian H1Bs. Everyone knows that this has been going on for many years at Oracle, but it’s apparently taboo to actually state this publicly without being targeted as a bigot.
Please note this — My issue is NOT with the Indians themselves but rather with Oracle management and their deplorable process for RIFs and the continued hiring of non-US citizens.
Would not be surprised if Oracle ends up with a 2nd headquarters located in Bangalore.
Hard working underpaid ICs are always targeted for rifs. Non performing Management and their kid/spouse/relatives at IC level are never touched. Pathetic.
It’s is not the RIFs that are the problem, but who is being laid off. The VP labyrinth could be simplified. The maze of management provides ample targets, and the chance to drop non performing assets.
