Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

It's surprising that the situation is not even worse

Vast majority of store managers have been in their positions 6 months to maybe 2 years at most since the company decided to run off most of the ones that knew what the heck they were doing ( along with all assistant mgrs). Now you are left with folks that were the assistant to the assistant at 7-11 running stores and this is what you are now stuck with. Couple that with nearly zero training and oversight ( especially in all areas of HR and what they are "allowed to" and "not allowed to" do while managing people). Over the last 2 years the company decided it was somehow going to be more profitable to get rid of professional retail store management ( and their pay of course) and move up random cashiers or fast food crew leaders to the supervisor and store manager positions. You see now how well that works.

= You nailed it, @2roi+1jOBuMHR

My only good District Manager was a black lady and the incompetent one who followed her (when she retired) was a white man. I see no advantage in the color of the guy's skin in terms of business acumen. He was a tyrant at one time on the asst. mgrs, as well as someone who once told me that the pillows needed fluffing. (by the way, you could not fluff a MyPillow!) So I guess I am the reason we failed and those pillows were the downfall of the whole place, not a bozo district manager.

That said, every good manager we ever had left. Color did not matter. We also had one guy tell us he was going to work at BMW parts. In fact, he manages a Yankee Candle. He didn't want people to know that for some reason. White, bearded, and used to drive something with macho stickers about flag burning on it.

Image matters, apparently.

Affirmative action grads ?!?

99% of the people in upper level management are white.

Listen, if you’re white and poor, I feel for you. Being a banana peel away from living under a bridge sucks.

Just stop blaming people who have been getting but!fu**ed for the past 600 years here.

You didn’t come here with a disadvantage. You came in on a level playing field for you.

VERY accurate as to what has happened over the last few years in every store. Kids (for the most part) with virtually no previous ambitions of moving up and learning to manage people and merchandise, being tapped on the shoulder. They have replaced ALL knowledge base and ALL people managing experience who were run out, straight over to strengthen our competitors now. But hey, each were given a 3 dollar raise and are now somehow magically "management'.
