Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

yes, downsizing is inevitable.....but

Looking closer at the strategies to focus in fiber and wireless services growth and the projected market opportunity, T will need to get down to about 120k employees by 2028 post copper retirement. if I was a betting non-binary, this includes selling many stores to auth resellers, reimagining indirect sales, focusing on digital distribution and continued application modernization. The only unknowns are a few T assets that may have buyers in 23 or 24 which may speed the transformation. Overall expecting JTS to stay until EOY 2024. While painful, strategically T is on the right path....but there will be blood.

OP is correct! Like it or not, it's true, as is this response:

"T was at a fork in the road 5 years ago, unfortunately it took the wrong path. There is simply no recovery with the current state the business is in."

I've been here 20+ years, will get surplused next year, and there's nowhere else in T for me to go. And I know many here are in the same boat. But, OP is correct. It's just the reality. They're not going to employ 200k people forever just bc we would all prefer that. No, I'm not happy about it. No, I'm not Stankey. No, I don't work for him, nor have I ever met him. It would have been nice had Stephenson not failed to buy T-Mobile, had he not bought DTV, had he not bought Mexico, had he not bought Time Warner, and Xander, and whatever epic fails he committed. But he did, and here we are. Focusing on Wireless + Fiber growth is the only path forward. Unfortunately our debt is massive and it's a big problem that we all are going to pay the price for.

And let's be honest, if you're not smart enough to understand this, endlessly call them "Randy & Stinky" and call everyone management trolls, you're clearly someone T can and should cut first.

T was at a fork in the road 5 years ago, unfortunately it took the wrong path. There is simply no recovery with the current state the business is in. What does that mean ? Quite simple. Without significant shedding of non strategic assets, unfortunately included associated personnel there will be no future viable company. It is simply not sustainable, let alone growth. Stay as long as you can, but please plan your next move outside the company, it will come when you least expect it.

An often overlooked side is that T executives have the ingrained culture of destroying each other and their subordinates in order for them to raise to the so called top.
Many successful products were either developed inhouse or by a startup looking for the economies of scale T would offer. Executives, current and former, would destroy each one by creating obstacles and deliberately pushing those ideas to the backburner, just to do everything in n their power for the other one to receive credit for a successful product.
Years ago, I was called to give a demo to a so called executive around a successful deployment of certain product. Did I get a thank you in any way shape or form? NO. In turn, I was peppered with questions from the so called executive that made realize he had no knowledge how things worked and instead was focused on finding flaws to expose and advertise, with the sole intention of saying bad things.
Anyways, you get the point.

Basically, if your position is maintenance kiss it goodbye. If your position brings needed revenue, you’re safe.
