Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

(16) TANGIBLE Benefits of Work From Home for Employers

Copied over from the Ford board, since this applies to us too:

Of course, if companies are willing to harm their brand image and accept reduced profits, they are free to mandate RTO.

Yeah, they want to buy $70,000 dollar gas guzzlers XD Keep fight the bogey man in your head. The thing that prevents layoffs now is the fact that General Motors is so far behind on EVs that they can’t get rid of people and still meet their already late deadlines.

2023 is going to be an amazing year with high profits and endless employment opportunities. Employees are holding all of the cards and employers will see work from home the only option and the way of the future. Any other viewpoints are the old way of thinking.
Inflation, food and fuel shortages aren’t real. People are flush with cash and are eager to buy $60,000 EVs. Banks are doing great and have plenty of liquidity to issue low interest loans to anyone who asks.
We are post-fossil fuels and the extensive green energy grid is up and ready to serve Americans with endless renewable energy.
We live in incredible times where robots do the work and universal basic income buys endless tacos and Pepsi deliveries with autonomous cars.

GM, when you said I could work appropriately...
Well, you must've had your fingers crossed
Shoulda paid attention to my friends at the other OEMs
Telling me how it's gonna end
Always giving their opinions
Now I wish I would have listened

Good luck.

@1yba+1jMqiaGJ spoken like a frog in the well.

Its clear you haven't seen beyond the auto industry. There have been companies that worked remotely even before COVID and they are thriving today. People like you are dinosaurs who don't look beyond a narrow view and make work life toxic.

If you are not a people leader in the auto industry, I hope you never become one! If you have managed to become a leader, then its a sure sign for people to avoid auto industry that promotes demons like you.

Typical “GM doesn’t need you” attitude.

People will never RTO. This will become clear very soon.

We've beat this RTO thing to death. People will adjust. It's how business was done for centuries. Covid is over and so is the experiment on humanity.
Once the fourth quarter results for 2022 are known in the context of food shortages, energy blackouts, high inflation, a housing crash, 30-40% stock market losses, and mass layoffs, there's going to be mass panic. People will be "lucky" to just be working and surviving in 2023.
Working from home will be a distant dream for most people.

"harm their brand image and accept reduced profits" - yeah, you aren't holding the cards my man. The job market isn't what it was. You can live in denial but you'll find out soon enough.
