Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Cuts are inevitable

I would like to be one of those who think that there will be no cuts soon, but Ford's plan to cut up to 8,000 workers still has not been achieved. That's why I wonder why some are so confident that cuts are not around the corner? Am I missing something?

The 15K includes a bunch of teams moved over when Doug got promoted a few weeks back. He calls his org Model e. So even if they aren't traditional EV teams, if they report to Doug then they are Model e. Which means, as per the August SIRP, when it happens again no one will be safe. Again.

So those banking on "I am in Model e, I am safe!' good luck with that.

15K people in Model E? Why does it take so many people to copy systems developed by Tesla years ago?

At our All Hands last week, our LL2 mentioned multiple times that there are 15k people in Model e. What has Model e delivered with all of these people? Aside from recalls...

At Underbody Systems Div, those working on Ford Blue projects has been moved to new sections, no Model e projects for those sections. At a recent retirement party couple of LL's leaving the division mentioned that future headcount cuts will be affecting those Ford Blue dedicated sections. Next round of cuts are expected mid-2023 to allow time to new reorg to take place and evaluate Ford Blue workload.
By the way, the new hires are somehow not counted in the overall headcount since those heads are for Model e projects. HR will manage a dual accounting system for those with time at Ford working on Ford Blue and new hires with ZERO experience working on Model e projects.
Also, select few who retired will be back as supplementals. Go figure !!!

Farley will use the cuts at tech companies as cove to cut another 2-3K US salaried this year instead of waiting until 2023
JF and DF and company are so far over their skis on EV and AV that the minor bumps on the trail ahead will send them and the company flying over the cliff.
Anyone else notice how JF and DF accelerated the US and European salaried purge to have it completed before the 2024 election season starts?

If you want to stay working in auto industry go work for Honda, Toyota, VW, Subaru or a supplier that supplies parts to them. Ford doesn’t want US workers unless you are one of the friends and family salaried “leadership”, then you can hang on the teats of pretending to manage the work of off-shored and out-sourced workers until you retire.

Oh I forgot Ford wants applause only, clap clap clap clap, back-slap, high-five, clap, clap, clap

Ford's US salary head count target is 8,300. In 2022 they have achieved close to 4,000 reductions. Senior people leaders are counting on another 1,200 retiring November 30th. They are planning 3,100 targeted layoffs in 2023 through 2024 as they outsource our jobs to low cost countries, Mexico, Hungary and India.

So let me get this straight, the cuts may or may not happen, if cuts occur, they may happen in 2022, or jan 2023, or april 2023, the cuts may impact US or EU or other countries. Well, that's clear as mud! Goes to show, gut feelings and opinions should be treated as such...misinformation.

IDK I would have agreed with the early ‘23 timing but with 10k cut at Amazon, Meta 11k, Twitter 3.7k, Fedex (just before the holiday rush!!) Stripe, Microsoft, Robinhood, Lyft, and Coinbase all cutting heads if JF wants any cred at the cool kids CEO club it’s coming sooner rather than later. Remember we are a tech company now so monkey see monkey do!

Many cuts will be in EU as a result of soo many greenies who want to ban ice vehicles.

Dearborn especially rotunda center and fairlane will be emptied before Christ Mas.

Our director told us that the next cuts are going to be outside the us. No time frame was given.

You're missing that ~5K are eligible for retirement this month and most of them will likely take it.

I think it will be January around Jan 20th or later. I predicted it once before and it happened that January. They really do not want to cut people until the holidays are over because that may be some of the people that they need. When you start seeing work slow down and management get quiet lookout, but also if all of a sudden they get really nice that is a sign too.

I believe that cuts are absolutely coming. Blue will be vulnerable until the time it either disappears or reaches some minimal staffing requirement to support whatever ICE vehicles Ford choose to continue building (if any). Ford Next, and others too.

It was / still is my opinion that these cuts won't happen before the end of 2022. I think they'll be early 2023. Probably by April like earlier this year.

Why do I think that? I dont really know. I think that even Ford executives couldnt deny how the August cuts shook up the remaining work force. I think they already know that they want to cut more from the ranks, but will wait and use PEP as their justification. And that'll take a few months...

But it wouldnt surprise me one bit if they did cut more people in December because some balance sheet need to look a little better...

PS, I fully expect downvotes for saying that there won't be more cuts the rest of this year : )
