Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Time off is great

15 yrs service, 5 weeks vaca. ( bought a week off); 4 weeks sabitical. Total 9 weeks paid time off. Not accounting for sick time & paid bank holidays. Not sure what all the noise is about on this site. Be enlightened & rewarded.

@1wts+1jLKYXlE That is correct, you won’t be able to take it unless your milestone anniversary falls after Jan 1 2023. Many people pi---d at this. Someone with 15 years in 2023 can take theirs before someone with 20-25-30, etc in 2022.
Like everything else in this place, a lot of thought went into that to make many people upset, so they can leave on their own

I’m still not clear on the sabbatical program (I’ve been on LOA)..

So if I hit my 20 year milestone in October of this year, am I to understand that I can’t take the sabbatical until I reach my 25 year since my current milestone was reached before 2023?

Or will I still be able to take the sabbatical next year?

Thanks!

“5 weeks vaca. ( bought a week off); 4 weeks sabitical. Total 9 weeks paid time off.”

I hope you don’t do math for the company. You BOUGHT a week of vacation. 4 weeks plus 4 weeks = 8 weeks. When you “buy” a week off it’s not “paid time off”.

@OP+1jLKYXlE - you sound like the HR hack who baits and trolls this site.

Why else would someone so happy happy with their employer be on a site called "The Layoff".

(things that make you go "hmmmm....?")

@clb+1jLKYXlE - because it has to be "within your anniversary year", managers do not look favorably on you taking it (esp if you're a high performer), your yearend comp is reduced (most rather take the money and leave/retire sooner, or use it to negotiate into their next gig - where they'll be paid more and get pay increases more often). I could go on and on.

Another nice PR story that "might" help with recruiting those just starting out, but hardly an incentive for those who have been here any length of time. We got ripped off, the program is obviously not intended for us any way. If they think I'm going to stay on the treadmill another 4 years to hit my next "anniversary year", I want some of what they're smoking. I could've had 6 weeks at 30 years (last year) and another 6 weeks at 35, but the sm--k in the face is pushing me out the door. (light bulb moment! obviously with their no exception policy, THAT is their intent)

FYI: in the FAQ section, page 4 it says “Your job is not protected while on sabbatical unless required by law.” Perhaps that might be a reason why someone is not taking their sabbatical.

because taking any time off is usually looked at negatively even if you earned it, too many think you should sacrifice your happiness for that stock price

@srp+1jLKYXlE why didn't your friends take the sabbatical?

They definitely should have done something more for those with the longest service anniversaries. Give those that reached 50 year anniversaries 1000 shares or something!

Sux that you with a paltry 15 years gets 4 weeks sabbatical and those of us with 20, 25, 30, (TWICE as long as you), 35, 40, 45(!!!) and so on, get NOTHING because our anniversaries were as recent as last year.

If you are so d@mn happy, the F are you even on this site?

Nothing better to do with all your amazing free time?

I bet you won't last long.

Before you enjoy all of these vaca or shortly after you enjoy them, you get laid off. Most of my friends with 20 years did not take sabbatical.
