For most of my colleagues, I think that they could make much more progress elsewhere. But instead, they are still here. Sometimes I think the reason is that there has been a culture of fear here for a long time.
Instead of looking for better options, many are completely preoccupied with how to save their jobs here, because the culture of fear has destroyed their confidence that they can do better.

@1psb+1jHumAQ7: Your comment about vacation being non-negotiable. I used to think that was true, but my last job before Fiserv (2014), I accepted with only 1 week of PTO the 1st year. I had a family member go thru a health issue, so I burned thru 4 of those days within 4 months, leaving me with one day for the next 8 months. I started looking for another job, and accepted that job......my current job countered with three weeks PTO. I left, because I felt like they should have offered that in the 1st place.
Many of us see us building a Culture of excellence --- why do you have such a hard rime recognizing that we are in a difficult economic situation and Fiserv is leading --- wait until you see the carnage at FIS and Global Payments. Also we have to move from one person in Missouri who is the only person who knows something to a documented, process and tech driven approach.
Most employees of any company prefer to stay put, even in the face of unpleasantness. They understand it might not be better at a new place.
One of the biggest hesitations my co-workers mentioned was earned vacation. They didn't want to start over again. Losing 2-3 weeks of vacation is huge. In many cases, it's one of the non-negotiables at a new job. Additionally, most of those folks worked hard to earn a good reputation and amassed respect over many teams. They'd have to start all that over, too. That's a pain in the rear and I don't blame them for hesitating.
Some of them are lifers. It's so sad to leave them behind. They all have seniority numbers like 18 years or 22 years. Always just a couple more to hit that next milestone, and then there will be another one after that. It has been their only job since college, and they fear what job hunting would be like because they never had to do it before. There is nothing wrong that fiserv could do that would get them to leave. I wish there was something that I could do to help them understand what it's like on the outside. There's a whole world of wonderful places to work out here.
If you are already doing 2-3 jobs, you can just get one job somewhere else, and then another job somewhere else. Then you get two paychecks for doing less.
You will eventually burn out & then they will discard you like last week's leftovers.
So true I feel this way… I’m doing 2-3 jobs with more being piled on each day but my confidence is shattered from all this mess. I’m too tired and worn down to look for something new so I stay.. trying to save a sinking ship.
