Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Feeling very depressed

How is everyone coping with the layoff? I am experiencing severe anxiety and in full blown depression. Can't seem to accept this and shake it off.

I know this won't ease your pain, but feel the emotions and allow yourself to grieve. Losing a job has been equated to losing a loved one and to many (myself included) this is one of the only ways they find value with themselves. When it's so carelessly stripped away because of nothing you did, but a greedy business decision to pad the wallets of senior leaders, you have to know you deserve better and you will get it.

Begin your next chapter where you will find an employer that values your strengths and you make sure they have a culture that is in alignment with your needs. You are important and I'm very sorry for your pain. I truly wish I could give you a hug. It will get better. If you have a cat or dog, spend time with them. They will let you know how important you are unconditionally.

Ps. You're too good for humana!

I was in a RIF a few years ago. It was horrible, scary, a sad event. Anyone who tries to invalidate your feelings or reaction has either never been through a RIF or they don't really need to work. You are entitled to your feelings.

Please use the EAP benefits.

Apply to every job for which you're qualified and interested, inside and outside the company.

Every day find something positive to say about yourself and your life.

Get plenty of rest.

When I was notified I couldn't keep food or water down for over a week. I wasn't doing well at all. Please get the help you need to avoid that type of reaction.

I used a spreadsheet to track every job I applied to, if I'd interviewed for it, if I was sent a "thanks but no thanks", etc.

I sent emails to the people I worked with immediately (after telling my direct reports that my position had been eliminated and that they were going to be moved to a new team) to let them know my position had been eliminated and I provided the last day I'd be available if I didn't find a new job. I let them know to get whatever they needed from me immediately just in case I didn't find anything internally.

Best of luck to you and everyone involved in this RIF.
