Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Is services the only one being forced to work on Veterans Day?

Xerox being slimy again. We were told that since customers might be open, we have to work but will get the OT. I'd rather have the day off and spend it with my family, especially as a vet who deployed IOF.

I'm going to spend my Veterans day submitting more applications, dragging my feet while getting that OT. F u Xerox.

Our manager gave us the option of work and get the triple time, take the day somewhere else or take the day off. Maybe your manager didn't know what the options were.
Be sure your time was coded properly. Should be coded like a regular day plus 8 hours of "holiday first shift worked"

I'm sure you could have requested the day off in advance.

Veterans work on Christmas, and for years at a time, take it in stride. I'm sure we all found ways to get paid to goof off today. Not that big of a deal.

I find it funny that on all other days, Xerox could care less about servicing customers, some of whom are down for months at a time.

Point of reference: Last December, the corporation declared Veteran's Day, June Teenth, and MLK Day as "company wide holidays." They also took floating holidays away from the employees to have these new "company wide holidays."

These days were never advertised to the employees as 50% staff days. They were called "company wide holidays."

I don’t even work at Xerox, but OP sounds like a little bit**. Move on dude!

Let me get this straight: so the OP is getting paid (overtime mind you), and most likely will just be sitting on his b-m all day not taking calls since he is just on standby? And somebody had the nerve to complain about that situation? This is a soft a$$ culture in general. A bunch of babies acting like Xerox is forcing them to walk on hot coals. You put all fellow vets to shame.

If you thought everyone had the day off, that's either on you or your manager. Just like the day after Thanksgiving, some people have to work. For Veterans Day, you'll actually get triple pay. 8 hours straight time plus double pay for working the holiday. I work all of the holidays that I can for that extra cash.

Long time reader, first time poster. I must agree with the “first world problems” comment. Although there are certainly plenty of issues with the company at the moment, this one seems petty and unnecessary to complain about.

I also want to mention that its truly pathetic how many people agree with you. Kicking a man when he's down is so invigorating isn't it? You're all sociopaths.

I've never posted here, but this final post finally prompted me to. I want to ask what is wrong with you? This was never a problem of first world issues, yet you seem to think that somebody voicing their frustrations with a poor paying and stressful job is worthy of dismissal by comparing it to such. Are you so high up in the chain of command at Xerox that you cant have any empathy for those below you? Are you so comfortable in your position that you're not seeing that the people holding this place up are leaving? You cant build a house without a foundation. Soon you will find yourself on the floor. Your attitude wil see to that. This is a pathetic company truly, and you contribute quite well to that.

Post from TheLayoff.com

First world problems is crying that my coffee was too hot.

Wanting to spend time with my family on a day that I was told would be available is a condition of compensation for my labor.

Being on call, being told to be on standby, being told I am subject to recall is not a problem. At least tell us not to trust their holiday calendar, that would be fine.

These are printers, not life saving jobs that must be staffed. Not my fault X fired off their workforce.

Also, Walmart and McDonald's employees should give a sh-t about their time off, too if it was scheduled. You boot licking bozos miss the point of give and take.

You guys miss the point that we were told we would have the day off and they took it back last minute.

That means cancelling plans.

Yea I get it, we have a job to do. How about xerox keep their word like they want me to keep mine.

Buncha company boot lickers in this thread.

This is the first time I've ever had Veteran's Day off that I recall. Now, how about we get Good Friday off and show everyone how inclusive and progressive we are.

Oh no, you have a job and are going to get paid overtime on a day that you probably won’t have any customer calls?! This is the definition of 1st world
problems. You would think as a vet you would be a little less tinkerbell. Complaining just to complain. Leave the company already and become the ballerina you always wanted to be. You can do it!
