Meta laid off 11,000 people today. Oracle will probably approach that number at some point, but you can't help and notice the humanity the rest of the market has. While LJE surfs on Lanai and Safra hangs out in her spreadsheets looking to find ways to sc--w employees over, the rest of Silicon Valley actually provides a safety blanket when RIFing employees. At Meta, the laid off got:
- Career support services (Oracle employees can try to get a new job within, but good luck outside the company)
- 16 weeks of pay + 2 weeks/year of service (Oracle gives WARN or 2 weeks, whatever is less and legal)
- Fully vesting stocks (Oracle will revoke if they can)
- Paid back PTO time (Oracle gives 'unlimited' PTO to avoid this)
- Health insurance (Good luck with Cobra, Oracle suckers)
- Immigration support (Oracle will replace US citizens with an H1-B)
- An actual letter from Mark (LJE and Safra have stayed mum)
- Admission from Mark that he screwed up (LJE and Safra think they are Gods)
- Commitment from Mark to figure it out (LJE and Safra think they are Gods)
- A kind goodbye (LJE and Safra think they are Gods and you're nothing)
It's a reminder that Oracle sells software but doesn't actually believe the message they support those products with. Employee experience for HCM—that's a lie. Top level finance solutions with ERP—not when they are in constant SEC violation. And those are just two examples.
If you are still at Oracle, do yourself a favor and get out of the company. I once thought the benefits, work, and people were great there, but it's none of the above. Even in layoffs, other companies show how second-rate this jo--t is. If you're a customer, please jump ship to ServiceNow, Workday, SAP, Salesforce, or Adobe. You deserve better too.
You deserve better, and you do. Don't let yourself fall victim to the Oracle Doormat Principle, and we will all live in a better world.
