Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Layoffs Again

Here we are, another round of layoffs at Humana is upon us.

I am so exhausted with all that's happening right now.

The work is exhausting, the economy is not good, it's hard to make ends meet and prices are going up.

The executives are making a ton of money, crazy big bonuses, but the worker is paying the price.

We are the ones that are being laid off.

I am a single mother and I have two elementary school kids to support. If I get laid off it'll take long time to find a decent job. I am afraid the search will take forever.

I am sure the executives do not worry about that. My emergency budget is only $5000 and this amount will not last long. My ex-husband is still without job, he never helped much anyhow.

I am just so depressed today. Sorry for the rant...

Our meeting was 5 minutes and information was read from a script. It took a minute to process what was happening. I thought they said we should receive a letter Fedx. We are supposed to receive pay until 1-9-22 while looking for a job. Does this sound correct to anyone? I can’t believe there is nothing in writing.

I am a product of a divorced family. My father was not very involved and my mother struggled to make ends meet. When my mother got divorced women didn’t even get to have a credit card unless they were married. I know it’s very difficult when you have young children and you’re trying to raise them but they will grow up not expecting anyone to spoonfeed them. My mother was always very positive and told us we could do anything we wanted to do as long as we were willing to work for it. When we were young we babysat. When we were old enough to get a regular job we worked on the weekends. Never during the week so that would not interfere with school. I worked my way through nursing school and I’ve been a nurse for 30+ years now. I bought my first house by myself I have bought all my cars and have had a wonderful life. I have been married for 25 years and have three children. My children have not had to struggle like I did and I’m not sure that is a good thing. They do not have the fire in them to go out and conquer the world like I did. Sometimes when you know you have to make it on your own it’s a blessing in disguise. Yes this layoff stinks and Humana is a difficult company to work for. Please don’t let this company steal your spirt. As long as you communicate with your children and let them know you’re doing your best and they may have to help you then things will work out. I wish you all the best!

I’m not sure if you were included in the rounds of layoffs or not OP, but I can relate to your frustration either way. When you’re a single mom with a family to support, job security is your main priority. I agree with you — BB’s generous salary is outrageous, and if saving 1 Billion dollars was the goal, he needed to look underneath his own couch cushions and sacrifice some bonuses for a few quarters, instead of laying off 700 people. I’ve been with Humana less than a year, and I can’t imagine dealing with this for decades. I can’t see how people have stayed with the company for so long, given the lack of stability and constant layoffs.

What’s also frustrating is asking in the townhalls about inflation raises since everything is going up, only to be told that inflation raises aren’t in scope for the company. Even our merit pay raises aren’t anything substantial. The lack of job security is so overwhelming. And to be told that the layoff announcement is a call where someone is reading off a script that lasts for less than 10 minutes is so infuriating. What a horrible way to sincerely thank people for their sincerity and sacrifices.

I get that the RIF is related to change in direction, but it would have been nice for those impacted to be transitioned into roles with the pivot

Bruce Brucard the president of Humana salary and bonus is 20 Million per year, this makes him the highest CEO income in Kentucky. This apply to other Humana CEO. Why they didn't cut a portion of their salaries instead of laying off hard working small income staff.

I am sorry to hear this.

I hope you'll bounce back quickly.

Layoffs are never fun.

So sorry to hear this - I know that it's hard, and I am heartbroken for you and your kids.

I've been there—I've had to go through that same thing. And it's never easy.

But I want you to know that you're not alone in this. There are so many people out there who have gone through similar layoffs, and they've struggled with the same kind of feelings of hopelessness and despair that you're feeling right now.

And if they made it through, so can you! I know that sounds clichéd, but it's true! You'll get through this too!
