Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Whether the rumors are true or not...

My personal opinion is that cuts are inevitable. Does anyone think otherwise?
I am not saying with certainty that there will be cuts, nor do I want to raise panic, but I just think that they are inevitable because the company is in a bad situation, the atmosphere is tense... Considering everything one could conclude that cuts are just around the corner and that it is better to be prepared .

There has been no hiring spree from where I sit in basking ridge. Our headcount has shrunk 20%. And the only diversity we gained was h1b

The people that have the most experience and are still with the company are now the people who don't want to work hard or care about selling for this company because this is not a sales job anymore. There's no incentive to care about this job. Its sad and unfortunate that the company did this to itself.

Poor management drove the best people out of the company on at least the network side.

Wow, such a true & powerful; full of conviction from the previous poster:

"This ship is not going to right itself. You know this in your gut. It’s over. Nothing but a corpse of the former company is left."

Can you rebuild a company without all of its seasoned, knowledgeable, experienced, pragmatic & loyal soldiers? Remember in the beginning Verizon gave its employees ESP, then VARs to retain talents for minimum of 2 years to build to company?
It's the opposite these days, all of the good, talented people are all gone - are lay-off. Sadness.

Unfortunately the cuts are inevitable, and worse still they will be massive. Brace yourself for things worse than you feared. This didn’t have to happen. This is abject failure by leadership, and by extension the board who rubber stamps these arrogant “leaders”. For any of you on the fence, move on and don’t look back. This ship is not going to right itself. You know this in your gut. It’s over. Nothing but a corpse of the former company is left. Just get out and move on with your life. You won’t regret it.

Still room to ditch a lot of the blue jeans jockeys and slack slackers.

I’d like to know what part of the company is over staffed to even make cuts ? It certainly is not retail ( in store , online , or customer support ). Retail Verizon as a whole is still understaffed and this is a known thing.

Business tends to run that way during tough times. It's been done for 100 years but what if change actually energized us? What if we go against the grain and spend on quality. Put money into the workforce & systems and get ahead of this rather than be reactive. Our prices reflect a premium service but we cut corners to save a few bucks. We continue to pretend we're a Ferrari by putting a paint job on a Ford. Saving the company needs to be counterintuitive but there's no brass in our front office.
