If you get laid off from Fiserv, do you work through the end of the week? End of month? Is your layoff day your last day? Does it just depend?

I heard some are getting a severance, and some are not. What determines if you get a severance or not?
This last round at least to my knowledge, the associates last day was 10/2 and they were paid thru 10/31. You are disconnected immediate from access to the network. Your medical coverage is always effective the 1st day of the month, so therefore if you are riffed after the 1st you are covered. For those riffed on 10/2 as well as in my case, for the first 6 months you will pay your current insurance premiums currently being deducted from your bi-weekly pay, and after the 6 months you will be at cobra rates which are crazy high. If you choose to continue with the Cobra insurance for the 18 months DO NOT SET UP OVERDRAFT. You will have the ability to pay your monthly premiums thru FUEL and/or by mail voucher.
I was ambushed by JY and his winged monkey LSM the day they decided to fire me, accused of application fraud 10 years earlier, which was news to me. Then I was subjected to five hours of grilling by outside counsel, and accompanied home by two goons who rummaged through my home office looking for (and not finding) who-knows-what. No allegation of anything criminal, but their treatment that day was horrific. JY said we should keep the details between us to avoid embarrassment, and within a day he had told the biggest mouth on his executive team so got a head start telling his version. And mine was not the worst Fiserv separation I’ve heard about….
HR usually asks your manager if your last day is the notice day or if they want you to work through the end of your employment.
Technically yes, depends on what the HR says your last day is. If you are on a visa i.e. H1B or L1, then this is your last sponsored employment date until you can find someone else to re-sponsor.
I feel fortunate. I am hearing that this latest round that some didn’t get severance. Old Frank the Tank is ruining the company. His ideas about how to treat people are archaic! It was a great place until Jeff left.
It's been varying depending on BU whether you stay thru week or month. Whatever it may be make sure you ask when that severance is coming. Buddies that were laid off in CUS didn't get their severance till a month later.
Just in case it is till end of month ask for some vacation days now cause they won't pay you out your vacation/well being days unless you're in one of those special states. You can always cancel if you don't get laid off and need to save them. But no sense you sticking around feeling awkward.
