Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Has anyone declined an Oracle internal job offer while on WARN act?

Received my WARN notice Aug 4 that my position was terminated. I applied for both internal and external jobs, and received 2 job offers, 1 internal and one external. I am inclined to take the external offer, which starts mid-September.

If I had NOT received an internal job offer, my paperwork states that my Oracle employment and WARN act protection ends by the 1st day of my new external job.

My concern is: when I decline the internal job offer, does this end my Oracle employment and WARN act protection (and therefore my health insurance coverage)?

I have searched everywhere but not found anything directly addressing this. I'm hoping that someone out there has had a similar situation and can help? TIA!

The last reply is spot on. This OP really is a TOOL. He's got an awful attitude and should get out of Oracle.

If I were a hiring manager at anyh company, I'd never hire this guy. Clearly he would come with too much baggage worth dealing with.

Just a genuine question based on this post....what if you accept the internal offer, but get a better offer after a week and want to move out. Will that cause any issue because you are giving your resignation just a week after accepting it?

I guess most people are saying they would have left and not looked internal. I am not sure if that was your last two comments but I highly doubt if anyone will state anything now. What is the point of trying to stay when eventually you will be right back in the same situation? Good luck to you.

… and oh Lawd goodness… if u are posting here and not understanding that “WARN act” means “employee was told ahead of time that their position was eliminated and given 60 days with pay to find another job” and that “declining an internal offer while on WARN means saying goodbye to pay and severance” then I don’t know what to tell you.

Shame on me for trying to find nuggets of wisdom here when obviously ppl are just here to post stuff that make them feel self-important without rly knowing what they’re talking about.

As one of the ppl actually affected by this traumatic workplace event, I feel exploited by the cycnics looking on from the sidelines. I am not entertainment for you. Real ppl are affected by this and if you don’t have real informed things to say then then don’t compound the trauma by passing judgmental statements like “why can’t you just do this? And why wouldn’t you just do that?”

Sorry for the rant, but it’s overdue.

People like me go to places like this for hope and inspiration, but the joke is on us.

OP here. It’s obvious that replies have NOT been from ppl who were recently affected by the layoffs.

  • It’s irresponsible to tell ppl to “just leave and don’t look back”. ORCL does have rly great benefits that are hard to match (401k matching, 80% of health benefits paid, annual bonus, RSUs). I would be losing all of these by going external. Everyone has to weigh their options carefully. In my case I am willing to lose these because of better job fit.
  • TIMING is everything. I’m grateful that I would only be losing 1 week pay AND my severance (compared to others who are still jobless and would only have unemployment benefits at best for the foreseeable future). But the paycheck gap is not chump change for me as I already have cash flow issues from inflation, etc
  • The reason I’m not moving to external job rt away? They don’t want me until then. And I also want some time off.

So pls no more of this bullsh-t “you’re crazy if you’re even considering to stay at ORCL! Get out get out now!” Stupid knee jerk advice.

As pointed out earlier there are still many high growth jobs in high revenue areas at ORCL. I’m grateful to have been offered one of them, and that I was given priority because of my “position eliminated” status.

I was simply looking for advice from ppl who are living through the same experience rn in terms of navigating the process while extending benefits coverage for as long as possible while not burning bridges and maintaining dignity and respect.

Also, not really sure why you are inclined to take an external job that starts mid-September. Especially after witnessing how Oracle does their employees. Most companies let your benefits run out at least at end of month if not longer. Oracle "values" their employees so much they end them right at employment end. Yet, you have a lifeboat - and kudos - but are delaying it. Makes no sense. There is no career at Oracle for 95% of the people.

Why can't you just say no to the internal offer and accept the external without telling them? Wouldn't they just lay you off or let you got with severance if you just decline the internal? Why are you informing them what you are going to do or what offer you might have? Did they tell everyone they were going to lay them off well in advance?

Take the external offer. Unless you’re in OCI, doing healthcare, working on NetSuite, or working ERP, you’ll be doing this again next year.

Just trying to figure out how long I can wait before I click the “decline” button on the offer. I’m going to wait until everything is 100% settled on the new job offer side.

I have dental work in progress, etc and I want to make sure coverage isn’t interrupted bec cash flow is tricky rn

You don't. All benefits end on your end date. You can purchase COBRA if you need to and have I believe 2 months to do so. Unless all policy has changed.

If you don't take the internal offer, you are gone. but as I recall, you keep your medical insurance for 30 days. You can also buy additional coverage month by month.

So take the new offer, take the package, and buy yourself one additional month of coverage.

And....

Don't look back.
