Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

It is crucial to have skills up to date

I don't intend to stay here much longer. I am questioning whether I have the right skills to meet the prospective employer's needs. Why are there so many who say that their skills have atrophied here?

Python, AWS and Azure are all good things to learn and get certified in. Ruby, and by extension, Chef can be useful as well. Java is still something older and more established companies use but it is becoming less influential, shall we say, but still has a place, for now.

Good Luck!

If you are looking toward cloud, better learn Azure and AWS. GCP is much better as well but still more of an uphill climb getting customers who already committed to the top two. Nobody is looking for Oracle Cloud. I am being serious. Accenture and others might want a few who have real hands on experience deploying the applications but not any marketecture people. Almost all technology is in the cloud now but look to other stacks rather than Oracle. Get certified on a couple in demand and that should get you in the door.

Been here a long time. But my skills have definitely not atrophied. Had a great mentor tell me early in my career that keeping my skills expanding and current was up to me alone - nobody was going to do it for me. Referred to it as “me investing in me”. Talk about words that have rung true… so sharing the advice here in the hopes it will help someone else.
