Do nothing micro managers

I work under a do nothing manager. All he cares about is what time I am online, how much minutes I am away.. keep checking status of my work thrice in a day.

How can I deal with this? How do you all establish trust with your managers?

I have been consistently delivering every assignment still have to deal with such behavior. I don’t know why he hired me?

it takes a special kind of person to sit around, eavesdrop and be critical of their fellow co workers job performance. nice work if you can get it. lol

I worked for Humana for 8 years. The first stint in a front line telephonic CM role where the micromanagement was equivalent to elementary school. Didn’t matter if you were hitting all the numbers and doing “special projects.” Some mangers simply like control and are controlling. No other way to put it. When I moved into another position at Humana that wasn’t member facing I finally felt like I was be treated like an adult. I now work for another MCO and I have to say, no micromanagement!

These micro manage couldn’t do their associates’ jobs if their life depended on it. My leader can’t even answer an email or attend a meeting without someone from our team to translate for them. Clinical IT isn’t clinical at all and don’t understand the systems associates document in because they’ve never worked in them. These so called managers are a waste!

People who do nothing get promotions and not their always that person on a team that works harder and they give the work to. While the other just chill and relax

In general most managers do NOT like or want to micromanage. Once an associate has consistently given reasons to do so (can't be bothered to be on the phone for a telephonic role, computer going idle frequently during the day when person is not on breaks, call quality poor/superficial) then yes the micromanagement has to begin. It's disrespectful to other professionals who are actually working to not address that. Why a manager would micromanage a good or even at average worker is beyond me.

They are always watching. They will always be watching. Just aux in like you’re supposed to for breaks, meetings, etc. Don’t take it personally because that is just how they manage at Humana. Unfortunately, like below poster said, there may be a lot of people on your team that do take advantage. Just aux in and do your work and aux out each day and don’t even think about Humana after you clock out.

It may not be you, but a directive from someone higher related to metrics for all. I have found that one or two people on my team may have issues, and we all are part of their solution. The manager is accountable to their up line….or, given this is a time of review for RIFs, maybe they are actually trying to help you with your stats to have you not impacted? I think we’ve all gotten the productivity speech recently and the log in/out and breaks speech.
